I don't like the idea of Blair or any of his mates taking over the Labour party. Our Tony may have shot himself in the foot by backing remain, but he is still a shrewd operator who won three elections and kept the brothers and sisters in power for the better part of a decade.

Nope. We want a committed socialist who will piss everyone off and keep the Tories in government for years and years.

Exactly I want them to stay as they are for at least another totally unelectable, then fade away into oblivion their tried and failed every time ideology is no good for man nor beast.

I think the idea tony blair was some master political operator is just more bumfluff you read from the out of date newspapers they can barely give away.

He did win three elections , but it was done against weak opposition ,  facing one of the most inept conservative parties in uk history.

We could have pinned a red rosette on you  , got you to do your cockney sparra routine , and you would have won a landslide in 1997 after 17 years of conservative governments , the uk was tired and wanted and needed change.

On the old forum over the years , we went over in great detail the myth behind the blairite victories , which were far less impressive after close inspection than mythology makes it out to be.

Kinnock and smith did all the donkey work to get labour electable , and blair took the credit. Blair then went on to lose millions of labour votes , his ideology lost scotland and northern england , he turned millions off politics altogether winning a landslide victory in 2005 on a mere 35% of the vote on a 60 % turnout , and the election before he won an even bigger majority on even smaller turnout , all the while done by turning red tory , and trying to out bribe a million or so conservative voters in a few english marginals.

The facts around blair is far less impressive than the mythology people love to spout about him.

I hope they do go back to bairism.

For those like you with short memories , labour  tried  this in scotland in 2014 , after the scottish indy ref , when scotland was supposed to come back into labours arms after the nasty nationalists had lost , they elected if you remember right wing blairite jim murphy to lead the party in scotland.

He then went on to suffer one of labours biggest drubbings in scottish political history , losing 40/41 labour seats in the GE2015.

So aye borkie , im more than happy if labour want to resurrect the dead corpse of blairism. in fact i would be over the moon.

I quite like wee lisa nandy. I like clive lewis as well.

Personally if the momentum machine behind corbyn doesnt put another one of their muppets in place , then i think it will be great if they do their usual , go on the rebound , and put someone like keir starmer or emily thornberry (would be even better) in place. :-P

I would love nothing better than some blairite muppet like thornberry or starmer being parachuted in to give us all a good lecturing on how naughty and nationalistic we all are .

With all the fuss that has been made over corbyn in the last few years , people forget it was the blairites that lost scotland , and pissed off northern england in the first place long before momentum got control of the party.

So hopefully labour make their usual error of not learning from past mistakes and rebound back to the blairite red torys.

The piss poor "talent" and lack of any great charismatic individual in the party must be a worry for them.

Well, she is a woman and half Indian, which will probably count against her what with the Labour Party being biased towards white males.

What we really need is to find some way to keep Wurzel on as leader. With a numb nuts like him in charge the Tories will be in power until forever.

I see she is back to defying her constituency now she has secured her job for the next 5 years. Another vote against Brexit, and she has the audacity to think she is leader material.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

What we he do now when he stands down as Party leader , will he be happy on the back benches again, or will he even resign his seat and sit on the panel of Gardeners Question Time instead

Gosh I would even supply a barrow to cart him away. Surely he will return to where he is most comfortable. Revolting!

I'm not aware of Boris having any grievance with women?

I'm sure you are right. I just wonder if it might knock him back a bit and curtail his rhetoric if a slip of a woman was across the dispatch box. Let's face it, it can get quite brutish. Whoever Labour chooses will have to match up. None of the females I have seen so far who are ready to throw their hats in have seemed robust enough.

Whoever takes on the leadership needs to be measured against BJ. Unless they imagine that putting a slight woman in front of him will make him lose his bottle so as not to be called a mysogenist. I guess there might be more than one way to skin a cat or maybe de-claw a lion!

So good ole Lisa is thinking of putting up for leader.

This is a person that out of 103 votes voted 50 times for closer alignment to the EU, abstained 41 times and only 12 times against. It was only when a GE was announced that she realised she either went with the 64% leave voters or would be out on her ear. Not convinced by her new found leave alliance but could be interesting and certainly better than K of Brussels.
