Nick I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree. (I can't be bothered frankly.) Taking cover behind a brick wall is a waste of time.
Agreed.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Not with .22 rimfire you don't.
Yes mate, with a 22 rimfire. It's dangerous vs bricks.
I appreciate that might surprise you. It did me.

I have upgraded my backstop appropriately.
Hard wood is much better. I was too lazy to make up the sandbags.

I'm going 300 blackout next. I think that will be sandbag o' clock.

And the key here is rimfire, there isn't enough charge to do much damage. The metal has to be really soft to allow the firing pin to register, therefore low pressures. I too have shot many rifles, SLR 7.62 NATO right up to 50 cal sniper rifle that could stop a Rhino at 2 miles.

No.
The key here is bricks.

They aren't very bullet resistant.

Not that will go through brick, that amount of charge would blow the back of the round out.
My Compound Bow will do 10 times more damage.

I know, but there is some powerful .22 rimfire ammunition.

I only use hollow point subs.
And they still go through bricks.

So I suspect all the others will too.
Not with .22 rimfire you don't. Hollow rounds are designed to deflect more on impact and make big holes in soft flesh, not penetrate.
The reason the round is so dangerous it doesn't have the power to exit cleanly and bounces around inside causing all kinds of damage.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Nick I beg to differ. It very much depends on what .22 rimfire ammo. (I worked for a firearms dealer for several years, and worked on on and test fired everything from, .22 up to 15mm Russian heavy machine gun.)

.22 rimfire could barely take the skin of a rice pudding, not a chance of going through brick. It couldn't even penetrate an aluminium pan at 50 yards.

They went through the brick wall at the end of my rifle range easily enough.
4 bricks thick.

Lesson learned the hard way.

22 rimfire goes through bricks.
Even the 22 shattering ammo.

177 hmr has some plastic bullets that are supposed to shatter better. But I have yet to try.

Frankly I find the idea of a safety bullet somewhat comical.

In general term apart from .22 rimfire, most standard ammo will penetrate 9 inches thickness of block or brick. That is why British firearms officers are issued with ammunition that shatters on impact with anything solid.

If every shooting was logged on here it would be a large and long thread on madness.
