Come on JoG I'm sure you could have knocked something up in the lab to put in the tank to give the RS Turbo a run for its money .;D;D

We would have done, but we knew one or two of the scrutineers had firsts in chemistry and engineering already... And whilst I would have liked to take down the RS200 I think it was, I got the opportunity to see first hand how it could go tits up a few years later...

On a bloody freezing January in about '87 I was being followed all the way through town to the M4 junction by a prize prick in a Cosworth.

I was in my 130 odd hp M Homologated Toyota Corolla DX and in no mood to be pissed about so I hit the pedal to the floor as I reached the on ramp, going from 40 to 110 in the space the on slip gave me. There was sod all on the road and it would be another four years before Mr GATSO should have been the victim of a terrible accident with a milk float ...

T@@@ for brains came past me at the bottom of the on slip and entered the outside lane at about 130

Then there was a god awful bang and smoke and bits of metal chips went everywhere from his engine compartment.

He clanked to a stop in the hard shoulder 25 yards from the malpas tunnels entrance.

With nothing behind me for over half a mile I cut the power, rolled up to his side window, waved, and put the pedal to the metal

It was Moira who named our car Rampant Thrust and she did me proud. The engine was not transverse mounted, so the body would actually rock ever so slightly before the warp drive engaged

I doubt the T@@@ could see through all the oily smoke billowing from where his engine had been.

A year later Sarah became too heavy to lift into the back seat through the front doors (it was a 3 door car)

We had to sell Rampant Thrust

I wept

But at least I won't feature in a country and Western song in a few years time when a cowboys self drive Tesla pickup dumps him and picks up a more caring owner...

Was it ever not ?

I got an RAC rallying licence way back when in uni, used it to throw an Escort Mexico around a few events, but lost all interest when the RS same out.

The RS Turbo had about the horsepower of a harrier jump jet and did 0-60 in a little under 2 seconds. The only way I could hope to rival that sort of acceleration - whch was about 0.9g IIRC - was by driving over a cliff

Hundred percent understand, even stock car can be and is heavily reliant on money for success. And operating outside of team support in motor sport is not a way to stand any chance winning anything.
When it gets really bad is even when all the obvious extremely high tech mechanical advantages of the top teams is already the main factor of winning all ,of that can still be wiped away by a lining up of a set of rules in such a way as  to change the possibilities of who could win a race , that if not interrupted for any reason was in effect already won.

It has looked like a matter of internal politics controlling the outcome.

Well, that's it then.

I just clicked onto a link on the BBC page that led me to a load of technobabble that makes the offside rule understandable, and concluded that Verstappen Keeps the trophy and the F1 admins keep Hamilton's Team Appeal Deposit.

Couldn't happen to a nicer recipient of Hugo Boss sponsorship.

Oh and at least now Hamilton understands what B L M REALLY means

It certainly looked like it was orchestrated to give the Red Bull driver every chance though without the Latifi crash it would not have been possible of course . Red Bull certainly took full advantage of any situation that arrived with a big dollop of help from Masi

It certainly looked like Hamilton had more than just Verstappen to beat . Red Bull retiring their other car (after it had held up Hamilton ) for no apparent reason told us where Perez had found the pace he had been off all season . Red Bull only gave him half a tank of rocket fuel but with the early retirement knew  no checks would be made . They took  team orders to another level .

The objection will be thrown out ,the decision has already been made . The racing body might say the rules will be made clearer in future and give Masi a slap on the wrist  but thats about as far as it will go . F1 needs drama to break into the USA  as the major motor sport and they wont do that without controversy to talk about for hours on cable tv .

For true F1  fans though the sport became a bit poorer on Sunday

It has looked like a matter of internal politics controlling the outcome. all season. Yesterday surpassed anything before. Yes there was never that much between them all season on the track and what there was swung to and fro.
Yesterday Hamilton had a ten second lead with five cars between him and Verstappen, that gets reduced to a more or less one lap race with the ten seconds gone, and the chasing car on almost new tyres, against tyres 40 laps old. That wasn't anything more than thinking up an unassailable handicap situation for Hamilton to overcome. Don't know how they think it's sport.

Personally I would much rather watch Guy Martin making a fool of himself.

It was an absolute joke, and if Mercedes don't get it overturned I will not be watching F1 anymore. Twice Hamilton was 10+ seconds clear only for Masi to make decisions that took his hard work away. Absolute 🐕 💩

The referee somehow managed to bring a brilliant season to a farcical conclusion . It was like being 5-0 up and the opposition is given a penalty and saying  its  worth 6 goals .

Race director Michael Masi messed up big time ,handed Verstappen the victory and the World Championship on a plate  . There will always be an * next to this years 'winner'

World Champion 2021 Max Verstappen *

* Won after decision by race director to hand him the race

Why Masi's latest marginal call has left F1 with a sour taste (msn.com)

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
