A real taxi has a Jewish driver

That would be difficult where I live, anyone Jewish is as rare as rocking horse poo and Unicorns.

A real taxi has a full two way radio system fitted and the driver using a mobile phone is not only very dangerous it is a illegal.

A real taxi has a Jewish driver who has done the knowledge and can be relied upon to bring your daughter home when she has ended up in a part of town where  she should not be. As long as they do that they can communicate via carrier pigeons as far as I am concerned.

I just dropped my car off for MOT/service and called a taxi to get home. The driver - Romanian - who has lived here for 12 years and intends to stay post Brexit, had his phone on the seat between his legs and was glancing and searching on it all the way home (7 miles).

I am assuming that is also illegal for taxi drivers. I felt a bit vulnerable so didn't say anything. Would you have done?

It's unusual to have a seat between your legs.     But it sounds like he didn't know the way.

I have lived in London since 1971 and hardly ever hailed a Black Cab in all those years, I like the Uber Cabs very reliable arrive on time and good value for money

There are so many chancers driving taxis these days its hard to know where to draw the line . A few years back as soon as they said ''can you show me the way '' I would get out . Today that equivalent is ''can I have the postcode '' which is for the sat nav .  Very few actually know where they are going # and its common for them to rely on technology to get you where your going . They should of course have hands free set ups at least along with everyone else and having a phone on your lap is a no no .

For me you either tell him to stop and get out or shut your eyes hold tight and hope you get there .

#Personally I use Black cabs where possible  who will take you wherever without any problems or having to give directions .

Ah I get you now,is there no way you could combine your car service and mot with some shopping and maybe eating somewhere?

After all being a woman shopping is a pleasure isn't it?

As it turned out it was ready at 12.30pm so at a pinch I could have stayed in town. The rain today - torrential - really put me off. Next time!   ;)

The best thing is to drop the name of the cab firm to those who would otherwise use it. The customer is always right. It would be upto the firm if they wish to continue employing him, but if the potential customer knows which firm not to trust then it may well go out of business. So the thing to do is think how you can get the message out. One excellent way is to give the firm a Google review.  Make sure what you say though is 100% truthful, and don't exaggerate.

My car mechanic is John. I have used him - in the nicest sense of the word - for probably 20 years or more. He earned his stripes when the head gasket on my last car went. At that time I used the main dealer as it was a newish car. £3000 later after the AA rescued me post repairs, when smoke/steam blew  up the engine on a Milton Keynes roundabout during the morning rush hour, I went to John who had looked after my old previous car. He looked at the engine, scratched his head, and deemed that the dealers had omitted to change the hoses which apparently they should have done, but that in any case he thought it was the oil filter rather than the head gasket. I had been returning to the main dealers post repair every week with increased oil in the water container, and each time they cleaned it out with advice to watch it and return if necessary.

John changed the oil filter for minimal cost and the oil disappeared. Believe me better the devil you trust! His service is better, his prices definitely better and he puts himself out if I get stuck. He's a gem!

I would have given the driver a verbal warning, and if he didn't stop then reported him to the council.

I never use a main dealer. The majority of the work is done by fitters rather than automotive engineers, standard times are set for jobs which are invariably longer than the job would take an experienced mechanic and hourly rates risk exceeding those of a lawyer or medical consultant. I take my car to a marque specialist but not a main dealer who is £65 per hour compared with £145 at the main dealer. Above all a qualified mechanic is in charge of every job/service and checks everything rather than merely relying upon a standard tick list, which is how worn hoses don't get changed, secondary gaskets are not replace on reassembly, and even worn bearings get ignored. OK not all main dealers are that bad but a good one is rarer than rocking horse poo!

That is what I do saves all the messing sitting in a cold garage with a crap coffee machine provided you trust the garage but never give the driver your house keys just the car key.

No Toots what I would do is go to one of the many garages that now pick your car up take it away service it give it a wash and bring it back or book a courtesy car.

No, I'd have just reported him to the council when I got home. They'll take his permit away.
