Well, the Yanks have never been big on hearts and minds, Dollars backed with military might and puppet regimes. Put Vlad in a corner and he will come out swinging.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

You do realise the existing pipelines from Russia can carry more than enough gas that Europe uses or needs.
There's so much going on with that pipeline, from USA sanctions on any vessel that is seen to help construction and Polands security concerns. Russia is been held to account and in retalliation are trying to use price increases to have regulations dropped and the pipeline signed off. But nice to see you make up your own narrative, devoid of any reality, in your universe we all go back to the good old days and ramp up coal production.
Fancying yourself as an authority on world politics today Gerry?

I really find myself wondering if your last post reflects a lack of commercial literacy or simply a burgeoning sense of arrogant entitlement?
If the existing pipelines can carry all the gas that European customers could possibly demand, why then has Germany commissioned and built Nordstream2?
Russia no doubt has the gas to supply, but why should Russia do so? especially to hostile and otherwise unfriendly countries. All the more as it is finding ever more willing major customers in Asia. India being the latest to express interest in being supplied.
Has Russia put up the price? Is Russian gas more expensive than any other source? Have you just pulled this from your Gaelic derriere?

Gazprom supplies Western Energy companies by contract, which is a set amount of gas each trading period for the term of the contract, at either a set price or a set pricing mechanism and this contract will also include the details, terms and method of delivery, ie through which pipe and to which terminal it will be sent.
Nobody has accused Gazprom of failing to meet its contractual obligations, so clearly this has not happened. Which means that any shortage will be caused be excess demand over agreed supply. Hardly surprising given the rapid scale back from other fossil fuels to provide a reliable base load and the irregularity of renewal supplies.

Gazprom and European Energy companies have already written the contracts for additional supplies to come via Nordstream 2 and these are cheaper than many of the existing contracts via other pipelines as there are no transit fees inflating the cost. On top of this there is wholesale theft by the Ukraine of gas being transited through its territory. It is the German side not the Russian that has failed to sign off the pipeline so it is very rich of EU sources to complain about shortages of gas.

Still the yanks are more than happy and are offering the EU supplies of LNG from its own fields. Trouble is, this is about the twice the price of the Russian Gas.
so exactly is using the pipeline to exert political pressure.
Maybe you think, that the EU being liberal democracies, entitles them to receive all the gas they want at a rock bottom price and Russia should simply feel grateful that it is being allowed to supply?

You couldn't make it up could you. The EU refuses to use the plentiful reserves of coal which they have to keep the lights on and heating going, instead preferring to use Gas. Not surprisingly gas is therefore a more scarce commodity and the price has rocketed.
Nord Stream 2 is waiting to be signed off and low cost Russian gas is waiting to be piped into Europe. For the EU to hold off certification and express concerns about "Russia using the pipeline as a political weapon" takes dis-ingenuousness to a whole new level that transcends both farce and parody!
It is a German pipeline afterall, not a Russian one.
No doubt Eu attempts to have a p'up in a Brewery would fail on similar lines >:(

Europe's energy crisis shows little sign of abating. After Germany this week withheld approval for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline over fears that it could be used as a political weapon by Russia, benchmark gas prices spiked by 10 per cent across Europe, coming close to all-time highs set earlier this autumn.

Some energy traders had hoped that the first supplies arriving through the controversial pipeline would help alleviate pressures this winter, but on Thursday the president of Germany's energy regulator played this down, warning that approval for Nord Stream 2 cannot be expected in the first half of next year. And as the prospect of relief from the East fades, cracks are starting to emerge in the EU's wider energy policy, with rumblings of discontent growing in central and eastern Europe about the role which the EU's climate strategy might be playing in the dire state of affairs.

The Polish parliament last Thursday passed a resolution saying the EU's energy system 'has become a huge threat to Poland following the adoption and implementation of new climate policy instruments.' And in the neighbouring Czech Republic, ministers this week warned of steep increases in energy prices and entreated the EU to take a more liberal attitude towards the use of fossil fuels to keep lights on and homes warm this winter.

Experts have pointed out that there are multiple factors causing the current crisis. With Europe already heavily dependent on Russia for natural gas, it's widely speculated that Vladimir Putin is toying with the bloc by holding resources in reserve which could be sent west. And the combination of a cold winter last year – leading to the depletion of existing stocks – and an explosive restart to industrial activity when pandemic restrictions were loosened, is thought to have caught the EU on the wrong foot.
