Norway to stump up a third of each home's power bills to help to deal with energy crisis

The Norwegian government will help to pay its citizens' electricity bills, the prime minister said in an "extraordinary measure" to ease the cost of living.

Each household is expected to save hundreds of pounds through state subsidies to cover half of power costs above a price floor over the coming months.

Oslo has come under pressure to deal with the energy crisis in a country that suffers particularly cold, dark winters. The average minimum temperature in Norway's northern regions hovers at minus 11C throughout the season. Some people inside the Arctic Circle do not see the sun for months.
