We spend weeks choosing suitable or much wanted presents for our nearest and dearest then lo and behold the bells hardly stop ringing than the shops are in full on spend spend spend mode with what they tell us are enticing never before offers.

Failing that we are told that the screens are fired up with a vengeance with us buying online as if there is no tomorrow.

I understand that shops are already disappointed with lower footfall but even so billions are due to pass through banks in the post Christmas spree.

Not in this house it didn't. I can think of nothing worse.  Did anyone grab a bargain? Did you save your pennies for the post Christmas splurge?

I dont do shopping toots.

Needless to say my wife and her protege (my daughter)  keep the economy going single handedly.

Have to say though the signs arent looking good for the economy this year  , and havent for a while. I did laugh my head off though as the media spun  "rain and climate crises deterred shoppers".

QuoteWorries about the environment are driving shoppers away from Boxing Day sales, with spending expected to drop by around £200 million this year.

High Streets are also facing tough competition from online retailers like Amazon and BooHoo as people browse and buy from home on their phones rather than on cold pavements.

Around 40 per cent of UK adults will take advantage of the post Christmas sales, and spending is expected to total around £3.7 billion according to Barclaycard.

A total of 62 per cent of men and 68 per cent of women have said they will be buying less for the sake of the planet.

Almost seven in 10 consumers also plan to spend less on "fast fashion" because of the potential environmental impact of its production.
