And now Oxfordshire county council come up with plans to bar all meat and dairy products from council events........the only place for these types is literally they belong in a plant pot.

Oxford school serves up vegetarian-only meals

A head teacher of a new secondary school has defended a decision to serve only vegetarian meals to pupils.
Kay Wood said taking meat off the menu at The Swan School in Oxford allowed the school to serve "much better quality" lunches at affordable prices.
The head teacher added the move had "environmental benefits" and allowed staff and children to "eat together and enjoy a meal at the same time".

Edit - we have no street lights and an 11 year old girl was hit by a car in the dark when she got off the school bus a few weeks ago.

And the reply should be yes but there is no cure for council stupidity and anyone can get run over in the dark so spend the money on bloody street lights.

That's what I always regarded the function of the council but in recent decades we've had nuclear free zones and councils concerning themselves in wider issues more important than the above,...

Most councillors are well meaning enough but really do lack the experience and knowhow to run what is often a multi million pound organisation .
We have gone into special measures in Croydon .Bankrupt in all but name mainly because of a disastrous building programme that was run by muppet who had never set foot on a building site before being appointed .

There is a couple of new blocks of flats 140 units along the road . Nice pedestrian  area and play areas for the kids  along with a new bus stop outside . Trouble is there is no parking areas and  nowhere for the bin lorries to access the bin stores . There are electric car charging points somewhere but nobodies been able to find them yet .
I could carry on but suffice to say its chaos , the blind leading the blind with a sprinkling of people who think they know something . Many councils are much the same .
Too busy on pet projects while neglecting the basics is par for the course Im afraid . If it wasn't veggie burgers it would be cycle lanes or some other mad scheme  ,maybe the good people of Oxford have had a result .

Twas ever thus.

For years there was a chunk of the Finchley Road known locally as the valley of the dead. There were a couple of corner shops and a branch of Waitrose that's main attraction was that it had underground parking. And every so often the Council would send out canvassers to ask if we wanted the area turned into a pedestrian precinct. And I would thrown a queanie and scream that it was already a bloody pedestrian precinct and what we wanted was some parking space to encourage shopping and such. And the canvassers would laugh and say everyone says that.

And the canvassers would be back next week with the same questions.
