You are the specialist at not believing what is on your doorstep.

Personally, I have a number of times seen you boldly state things to be fact that are not at all supported by the evidence, eg your insistent belief that almost everyone on welfare is swinging the lead somehow. Your tendency to believe what you want to believe whilst choosing to ignore any and all evidence to the contrary is most marked. You have a certain view of the world and of the people in it, which you are psychologically strongly invested in for reasons of pride and self esteam in regards to your own financial success. If you can do it anyone can, right? So all those who are less successful than you only have their own stupid selves to blame and are obviously lazy or stupid, right? Makes you better than them, right?You are so psychologically invested in such notions that you actively dismiss any evidence to the contrary and are only interested in things that can reinforce your outlook.

So I do see what Smurf is getting at when he speaks of cognitive dissonance. Some people will change their views in response to evidence, unless they can demonstrate logically why the evidence is flawed, which then leads to a debate. But you seem largely immune to evidence that doesn't suit you even when you cannot logically refute it.

None of this is intended as a personal criticism by the way, just an observation. Most of us do the same thing to some extent, yet remain relatively open to a good argument backed by solid evidence, because our desire to be right is more important to us than our actual ideology.
