Eh, we are contributors to the EU, that makes no sense.

Currently, maybe, but I think Eire has received about 42 billion Euros net, since joining the club.

Also the cost of brexit to end 2020 will be more than all the contributions the UK has made to the EU, maybe the UK got far more from being a member than its contributions, considering the losses so far would suggest that's the case.

31-18=13 days to go.  :Patriot:

years ago barry , a mate said to me if scotland ever got its independence , the majority of people , the snp , and the tories would be straight out the blocks getting on with life in the new world , while labour and the liberals would be crying about it for years to come.

Having witnessed the brexit debate firsthand these past four years, i can see exactly what he meant.

Bollocks to the place.

Well said borkie. Spoken like a true patriotic englishman , yet once again the organ grinders in brussells are getting their way.

The disintegration of the uk continues apace.

England really sticking the boot into the northern irish unionists now , threatening them with a new stormont election if they dont shut up about the border down the irish sea/backstop and the roadmap to reunification.

The NI 6 county part of the current uk will definetly not be leaving the eu . Who knows about the rest of us?

Whats the point of unionism if england doesnt want you?

Irish unionists utterly betrayed.

First item on bojos agenda for the coming year , border down the irish sea between one part of the uk and the rest.

I think the technical term is who gives a fvck ? Ulster may have some loyalty to the Henerian Church of the late 1530s but they have shown sod all since. Half of Northern Ireland wants to join the south and the other half wants to kiss the arse of the EU.

Bollocks to the place.

What has been agreed on Northern Ireland?

After Brexit, Northern Ireland will be outside the EU while the Republic of Ireland will remain inside.

But the UK and EU agreed this should not lead to new checks or controls on goods crossing the border between the two parts of Ireland.

To achieve this Northern Ireland will continue to follow EU rules on agricultural and manufactured goods, while the rest of the UK will not.

Additionally, the whole of the UK will leave the EU's customs union but Northern Ireland will continue to enforce the EU's customs code at its ports.

This will all mean some new checks and processes for goods moving between Northern Ireland and other parts of the UK.

Heres boris johnson in 2015 giving us his full on support for the eu and prediction of how the "british people" would vote in the upcoming brexit referdnum.

Quote"I will lay you any money at all... I've no doubt that the British people, who basically in their hearts want to be part of the European trading area - they want to be part of the Common Market - that we're a European country. They'll vote to stay in".

......barry assures us boris is a changed man now , no more lies , and the tories really mean brexit means brexit this time!!!

OK. I swapped this from another thread as I thought it would get lost in off topic. We do leave the EU on 31st January at 23:00, midnight in Europe, politically. We say goodbye to the EU parliament and we withdraw our 73 MEPs we all voted for less than a year ago, forced to delay by the foolishness of May's parliament.

In all trade and other respects we are still in until the end of December. It's another can-kicking exercise, isn't it?

PS - 27 days to go.

You do make me laugh barry.

You have been left with egg on your face time and again with your blind trust in the tory party since the original leaving date was announced and reneged on time and again.

We even had your new hero bojo saying he would rather be dead in a ditch etc etc , and yet here we are , a new year  ,another conservative countdown to brexit in process.

Beelbeeb was right , brexit does mean many things to you brexiters. Are you now telling me all you voted for was to take 73 MEPs out of the brussells parliament while every other aspect of eu control remained in place?

You mock me barry regarding can kicking , but i wouldnt be too presumptious with the conservative record on brexit since 2016.

The difference is now , they can no longer blame remainers in parliament for any future "delays".

.....and it wont just be Thomas the scottish indy supporter shouting this from the rooftops either when they renege on brexit yet again.

We`ll see.

I hope you will run your eye over the conservative parties brexit policy over the coming year barry , otherwise you might find yourself getting stitched up with a BRINO.

You seem very silent over the conservative announcement that the uk "leaves" the eu on january the 31st this year. I thought you might have been all over it ? ;)

The Tories will destroy Britain faster with Boris in charge. For a start just when the government will need every civil servant over the next year Boris is going to slash entire departments. That will effect ALL of government badly.

Hopefully BJ is going to make the CS come up to date. They are incredibly inefficient in so many ways and have needed sorting out since Blair politicised it, but that's only one of the problems. The only hope is that BJ avoids the 'new broom' syndrome and doesn't throw it in the air without providing a suitable landing position.
