Perhaps, but clearly the peasants did get their wish In regards to putting Charley on the throne. That and nobody wanted the Lord Protectors role even his son. Everyone except Cromwell it seemed was afraid of God.

To be fair. Tumble Down Dick's main problem was that he was a quiet chap who kept both taxes and fun prevention high. If he could have arranged a few back handers from Louis XIV and shagged everything in sight like Charles II, he might have had a long and happy reign as Richard IV
Algerie Francais !

Given that as late as 1842 the only people with the power to choose who governed were the landed gentry and gentlemen of the clergy, I rather suspect what the peasants wanted didn't matter.

The Magna Carta is a document agreeing the barons get the ear of the king, not the serfs and villeins.

Sure the monarchy came back because the peasents were religious f**kers ...

Hear hear, mind when Charlie is monarch it will be ear ear :D
He isn't popular, maybe a sign of the times or maybe he has zero personality.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

I am fully aware of Lizzies Privilege John. But I guess my point was that as the serfs pay tax on their inheritance, that perhaps using the notion that the Queen doesn't isn't exactly a good argument when I said her wealth came from it.

As for Cromwell, his only failure was getting dug up and being quartered. Hardly anything he could stop given he was dead. But his legacy remains. Sure the monarchy came back because the peasents were religious f**kers who wanted to be ruled again by Charley to make sure they get to heaven, but parliament has since remained as the ruling body whilst the monarchy are kept to the sidelines. If it weren't for Cromwell it may well have been a revolution for us in any case given the Tsars, Keisers and Antoinettes all had worse endings than Cromwell don't you think?

My mate was vapourised by a Republican.

But maybe that was a different kind from the ones you mean here.

I shy away from resurrecting the ideology of Oliver Cromwell not least because everyone found quite quickly how much of a disaster it was.

That, and the fact Blair will fix it so he gets made president

You seem awfully ignorant of history. Until very recently the queen paid no tax. And she only pays now on her personal income not her amassed fortune....

I can't make this out. Is this a positive for the Royals or are you a Republican John? Because where I am, not paying inheritance tax is a crime for Joe public.

Why? Sleazy politicians/Royals make the most interesting threads.
Crooked politicians yes, the Royals I have no interest in.

The Queen gets her money from the tax payer. So by definition it is going to be Joe public who bails out "her boy". But in any case, this is more reason for a Republic. You cannot legislate for born privilege. And you certainly shouldn't be paying for their exploited people traffic escorts.

If big ears doesn't step aside for William they're done for imo.
Big ears isn't stepping aside for shit. Kensington House has already made Lizzy write a teary letter saying she wants Camilla to be Queen Consort. The pieces are moving. Charlie stomped his feet and has his bride promoted to Queen mark2.

She does have private wealth, it won't change the fact for the likes of Boycey, they would be much happier without the Royal family and it doesn't change the fact that they have abused their position. It also doesn't change the fact that it is just another screw in the coffin being driven in by some pretty shady dealings.

I already said her private wealth is inheritance Sheepy. She gets a pay check off the tax payer and a load of property from the Crown. As for Charles, the biggest fraud he has done is called the Duchy of Cornwall.
