True enough.

There is only one party that can appeal to all classes and that is the Tories
You should be in the Tory cabinet with lines like that.

It's full of comedians so you'd fit right in.

The truth is that the Tories represent first and foremost the wealthy elites, including themselves. They do not really represent the people. They rely on three main demographics for their support - the fairly well off and the easily led. And of course pensioners, without whom they'd never win an election. So in many ways working people are being stuffed by those who don't have to work anymore, just to make sure there is no chance of anyone having it any better than they had it.

Unfortunately his cynical recipe for success relied heavily on an imploding Tory party and a focussed appeal to Tory voters in the marginals, on the assumption that Labour's working class and lefty liberal middle class bases could be taken for granted. And it worked very well in purely electoral terms for a while. Problem is, the people being taken for granted whose concerns are often not being properly addressed through fear of scaring the right wing media, actually get fed up with being taken for granted in the end. And they eventually break the habits of a lifetime and go elsewhere or don't turn out at all. And once they have made the psychological break they will need very good reasons to return.

This is why Labour have lost Scotland, much of the red wall, and most of the white working classes. And this is why Blairite tactics are doomed to fail. Because the people Blair took for granted for so long cannot be anymore, and simply will not return to Labour unless given solid reasons to, which address their concerns. In Scotland they have probably lost many of their voters for good, and the only slim chance of a recovery for them there is a total SNP meltdown accompanied by a credible and genuinely progressive alternative from Labour. Though probably even this won't work because much of Labour's former vote has given up on Westminster entirely and just wants out of the Union.

I liked Tony Blair, although admittedly my sole meeting with him lasted about half a second. But the general feeling was that his main weakness was that he tried to please everyone.

Starmer admires Blair because he won three elections on the trot. Much of the left can't mention Blair's name without expressing their contempt. They feel that they occupy the morale high ground. Unfortunately their representatives in the parliamentary Labour party also occupy the opposition benches, and that is where they will stay unless they frame up and rebuild the social democratic party that usher Tony Blair into number 10

Unfortunately, the tiny minority who see him as in any way relevent, and who think he speaks for the people and nation, includes Keir Starmer and most of his MPs.

If ever there were a bunch of politicians who need to get out more, it's them. Talk about clueless.

Really you mean like WMD's?
The rank hypocrisy and double standards, utter dishonesty, and sheer lack of insight of Tony Blair truly is breathtaking.

And the Labour party leadership of today see him as their hero.

How utterly annoying and depressing.

That Blair dude seriously needs to shut his gob and feck off.

Perhaps the government can help by appointing him ambassador to Mongolia for life, with a free yurt as a perk. We could even throw in a yak or two.

Poor old sod. He is wandering around looking for a job and time is cracking on. He is nearly 70. He ought to taking it easy, making a fuss over the grandchildren and such, no going on TV and whoring after any scraps of attention that are going.

QuoteMr Blair also addressed the conflict in Ukraine in the interview, recorded on the morning of the Russian invasion.

"It's massively contrary to our interests to have a country, an independent sovereign country on the doorstep of Europe, essentially invaded and taken over," he said.

And then this.

QuoteHe said people should "at least respect the fact of that complexity rather than reduce it to something that's a simple slogan.

"Because the politicians you really shouldn't trust are the people that get up and tell you the simple slogans."
