Seen as Asian — I guess that makes it OK then...

My point was 2 differences. If you choose to quote half a sentence then it says a lot.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

It is hard to gauge if the UK is more racist than anywhere else.

As I see it the problem is two fold. Folk like Pat like being victims so will always squeal racism regardless of the circumstances. And folk like me have run out of guilt.

Likewise, I don't feel guilty, but amused, when "sensitive" Whites try to depict themselves as victims of equality legislation and human rights...

Why am I not surprised you take that stance.

The the UK may be nowhere near the top of the league for racism, but the self-satisfaction that's often expressed doesn't mean it doesn't exist in normal daily life...

A young man who was beaten up in a racist attack on one of London's busiest streets has said he was targeted because of coronavirus.

Jonathan Mok, a 23-year-old student from Singapore, said he was attacked at around 9.15pm on 24 February on Oxford Street.

In a Facebook post, Mr Mok said a man, who was with three or four other men and one woman, said something about "coronavirus" before punching him in the face.

He said another member of the group then said: "I don't want your coronavirus in my country," before hitting him on the nose and causing blood to splatter on the pavement.

The group then ran off before the police arrived.

I am not sure racism is that prevalent in its true form, and the UK is certainly no where near the top of the league. Racism can be culture or skin colour but it always comes down to being different, the difference count is important too.

If you're black, rich and mingle in a rich society then the chances of you being abused is very slim, almost none existent, regardless of colour.

If you're black, rich and in situation where you interact with less rich white people you are likely to be a abused (black footballer, white fan).

A fairly racist combination (generalisation) exists where rich whites come together with less rich blacks, watch a film "Crazy in Alabama". This is again a 2 difference situation which I believe is the key, poor and black V rich and white.

I'm now going to contradict myself by saying that the worst racism I have ever seen was in Southern Africa. Black people with money treat the other black people and let's face it, they've got F.A. like shit. And this is where I say that racism isn't necessarily to do with colour, it's a difference thing.

Russia, Eastern Europe, Spain and the southern states are a million times less tolerant to colour/difference than the U.K. Can always improve but all in all I think we are doing ok.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Not sure you've really understood my point — I have not accused any single person here of racism.

I am claiming that (a) racism exists in the UK, and (b) that when privileged people, who have never experienced, faced or recognised racism, deny it exists at a significant level, they should expect to be challenged — especially if they say the subject bores them.

In the case of Fox, some of those challenges hit home and he felt hurt. Tough. But it's raised his profile and, carefully managed, will give him the chance of greater exposure for the full range of his talents...

PS: Dragging in and then belittling past ridiculing of the "some-of-my-best-friends-are..." schtick, could be seen as another bit of misplaced discomfort.

But then you have in the past.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

Fame + Social Media can be very toxic, so he's having a break from it.

The safest thing he can do for his own sanity is to close it down. I have come to the conclusion that it is little to do with the person being attacked but more a competition between the attackers as to how vile they can be. They are scoring points over each other by progressively upping the anti just because they can with no consequences to themselves. If he was in the stocks, today's veg throwers would be looking for rocks instead. It's a very unhealthy world for the attackers as much as for the attacked.

Just ignore him, Toots. Its one of his typical drive by "post for effect" efforts to try and get a reaction. He's a privileged middle class black person complaining about privileged middle class white people. It isn't worth a reply but for comedy value it's pure gold

Or maybe just hopes to appear that way.

He could be just a chap who lives in a not particularly attractive part of London, a car on the never never, a holiday home in Brittany because it is a fraction of the price of anything similar in the UK and the great advantage of a pushy West Indian mum who took one look at the balls up that the PC brigade made of education in Stoke Newington and packed him off to be educated in a state school in Guyana.

When I walk down Stoke Newington Church Street and see another white face I am inclined to say snap, so it could be that as being half white himself Pat  is suffering from white guilt.

But I could well be wrong

No but you have the population in general and I reckon there's a good cross section on here

QuoteI am claiming that (a) racism exists in the UK,

Yes and I and others have said the same

Quoteand (b) that when privileged people, who have never experienced, faced or recognised racism, deny it exists at a significant level, they should expect to be challenged — especially if they say the subject bores them.

Well you being privileged (by your own admission) along with many others were challenged on their stance on the recent referendum, people who had never faced or recognised the lot for instance of many northern people and were bored and dismissive of their view (how's that gone?) so you see Pat  there are many ways people can be categorised and by all means challenge if you want but it gets a bit annoying when a majority are painted with the same brush.

Discomfort? none at all thanks, do you ever feel any when you relate your lofty lifestyle?

I just hate the way that racism is not a definite definition but some fog that floats around constantly changing shape depending on what some chip on the shoulder person wants it to be at that particular moment in time. It is a ploy to make everyone else feel  inferior which in itself seems racist against pale skins.

The UK is no more (or no less) racist than any other comparable Western European Nation, and a lot less "racist" and intolerant than most in the world. I'd stop worrying about it I were you. The accusation has been devalued by continued misuse as to be approaching pointlessness.
