The scene is almost set. There are just the last few fences to be built but the PA system is working and the large screens are in place. However the horses are almost irrelevant as the jockeys decide what colours they will wear. There were hopes of a matching blue ensemble but it appears there are all shades from almost deep purple to palest sky.

There will be rules of course, but not yet it seems and mayhem is already breaking out in the locker room. Whoever holds the starting gun had better get these lad and lasses in a straight line before they start using their whips on each other. Yesterday there were those celebrating but perhaps today they should look over their shoulders. The runners are predictable sadly, it would be nice in a way to see a few novices in the running with fresh ideas rather than the old jaded faces that we have already seen too often. But there you go, grooms at the ready, weighing machine primed, the punters are beginning to get their tickets and think about their bets. Let's be off and hopefully the right steed will be welcomed into the winners enclosure and not terminally injured at the last fence.
