6,971 sewage discharges - £90 million fine is Southern Water's lot.

The water returned to the taps just after 7am today after a break of nearly 48 hours.
How much compensation do you think I should claim? I reckon a free bill next time might be reasonable. It's about £120 every 6 months.

Doing exactly that was Labour party policy when I was a member. The affluent commentariat kept deriding it as far left wing and an example of unelectability, even though polling showed that such nationalisations were supported by between two thirds and three quarters of the electorate.

But Starmer is an Establishmentarian shill who will never introduce such policies, and the Tories certainly won't. What the people think tends all too often to be equated with what the media think, and it is this latter and the affluent elites who Starmer is in hock to.
Your right nationalisation of utilities has been popular for some time .  I dont recal UKIP as having it as a policy back in the day but it was certainly popular with the members.

And that is all true, I think.
Why should utilities result in money being paid to shareholders? It only increases the costs. The government should be involved in all life essential infrastructure, water, gas, electricity, and these days possibly internet.

The water is still off.
When. I was a kid we used to get water from the Lake District, the boast then was the most they had to do was sieve out the bits......in short it was drinkable without any fuss.

Different story now, there's been stories circulating around north west water for some time now dumping sewage in Windermere and failing to report it under some obscure get out clause, this can't go on.

The issues are complex says the environment agency (no they're not) it's also partly down n to climate change (again it's not)

Take a pickaxe and set about the water company HQ. Make sure you try to use the pickaxe handle against any who try to stop you.

It was revealed by BBC News that all three prisons in the county have independent water supplies and while in custody your dehydration is your custodians problem....

Maybe the government should step in, remove Southern Water's ability to operate and send the army in to restore water to the island.
Whilst they're at it renationalise the water industry. I'm with Cromwell on that, all utilities.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

Still no water.
Apparently they had to call in specialist team from Northampton. They "fixed" it but it went again. This really points at a poor maintenance of infrastructure. To have only one pipeline on the island is a bit risky. They were going to put in a second, but it was too expensive, but they are still planning new housing developments on Sheppey.
Meanwhile, we import a million new people a year, they all need water, don't they?

Northwest water dump sewage just the same,we are well known for the rainfall in our region but these idiots tell us water is precious,it is in the Sahara.

I've reported leaks, takes them weeks to do anything by which time the road surface is knackered, just another failed privatisation.
Indeed the water companies just haven't invested enough of our money into their infrastructure while paying billions in dividends not to mention 6 figure salaries to the CEO's .
The ever increasing number of households of course gives them an ever increasing income for very little outlay . They use 'climate change ' as an excuse for their incompetence pushing more expensive water meters on the population as a cost saver . (wait till they increase the unit charge )

Population increase is problem they have failed like many other services to get to grips with . The UK is overpopulated ,not only  in density of population but in services , housing , schools , hospitals , roads ,the power grid and yes the water boards haven't kept up with demand .
The right wing as we are described  have been banging on about it for years only to be shouted down as zenophobics ,little Englanders and racists .   But there you go , Im going to water the plants .

24,000 homes without water. The whole island.
Prisons on the island - no water.
Southern Water are not the best company in the world. They regularly pump sewage into the sea and have been fined millions. Now they can't get us any water across from the mainland.

The Independent put this story in the Climate Change section.

It's nothing at all to do with climate change, of course. Just bad management of infrastructure, putting 37,852 people's lives at risk.
