How about you give some figures to disprove what I'm saying instead of asking the questions. Answer your own questions Mr C!!

Ha nice try Nick but you were the one disputing official figures of deaths in Italy and questioning  why it was a crisis when Italy has so many hospitals.

I don't deny you your skepticism nor your right to a different opinion this being a political forum,as for me providing figures they really speak for themselves, since early doors I have been concerned that this was different.

There is a sudden rush to manufacture ventilators here but you say I shouldn't be asking the questions but providing answers.....isn't it self evident why the sudden rush to make them?

I cannot understand why people still question that this is a public health crisis when administrations of all colours across the world  are reacting In very similar ways.

If you and others regard this as some collective madness that affects liberal democracies, looney religious regimes, repressive dictatorships both left and right and all stations in between fine carry on that's everyone's right to differ.

Should this all turn out to be a global panic because of an onset of the sniffles and nothing more then nobody will be more relieved than me.

If it all goes in the direction I expect then I won't be crowing in victory or self satisfaction,I have long said in other forums that the world is over populated and that nature will one day deliver a remedy..... perhaps this is it.

Oh Ffs what doesn't add up,how many hospitals are there in this country where you see a sign saying no A&E here, they are perhaps day hospitals, eye, geriatric specialise in certain things.

How many intensive care beds are there? Is what's important, but look yeah practically the whole world has shut itself down or intends too, endangered whole economies because the guardian and perhaps Corbyn too have plotted to imagine all this up to gain power and return us to the EU,even Boris has got on board and Trump too after all it is just a lot of people with a runny nose. :parp:  :fcplm:

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Hyperduck Quack Quack

I know they were talking about trying to extend the epidemic here to flatten the peak and all that.  But that was when they were on about the need for a 60% infection rate.

But that was then, now there seems to be a realisation that the tougher the restrictions we have now, the sooner the epidemic here will begin to reduce.

The virus is severe in coffin dodgers, to use papasmurf's term and your's Nick.

I'm not sure the effects are severe enough to close down the economy, but that will be seen in hindsight.

They do say that before a pandemic people will say that we are over-reacting, then when it is over they will say we should have acted sooner. There is no pleasing all of the people all of the time. I'm happy to use common sense. I'm not happy with the controls the Spanish have taken on:

1 occupant per car, if there is 2, they will ask the reason why, not a good enough reason, you will be fined. 3 people or more, you will be fined.

1 person can walk their dog for the minimum time required.

We had a great walk down the canal yesterday and put no-one in any danger by keeping away from people. Not being able to shop in couples is ridiculous. If you live in the same house you are part of the same confinement. However, Spain love a bit of Franco times authoritarianism.  :thdwn:

"The research, based on reported cases in China and travel data, estimated that 86% of coronavirus infections in the country were "undocumented" in the weeks before officials instituted stringent quarantines."

"Undocumented infections, according to the researchers, can go unrecognized because they come with mild or no symptoms..."

Now, you might think this is bad if so many people might have it, but no, it's good, because it means the proportion of serious cases and fatalities is much lower, and so the virus is not severe.

I really don't understand the logic of those determined, despite the insistence of the Government and the problems seen around the world, to belittle this virus to others. We have enough problems trying to curtail the contagion to  a point where the authorities can cope with elderly people who simply don't understand and youngsters who won't.

The more people determined to persuade everyone that it is just flu, the more unnecessary deaths there will be and that will be among all age groups. It isn't just that it is more contagious it is the fact that they can't treat it.

I agree not to belittle it's contagiousness, but we couldn't treat the flu, and yet people are exaggerating the severity of this new one, which leads to panic.

Average infection rate of an individual of others: FLU 1.3 / COVID-19 2-2.5

Reported deaths among total cases: FLU 0.1% or less / COVID-19 1-3.4%

Yes, infection is higher.  But again, this does not cover ACTUAL cases of the virus.  Statistics from China show that when they had 500 confirmed cases, they ACTUALLY had at least 2,500 cases (based on subsequent statistics), so it isn't actually 1-3.4%

That depends on your age and medical condition. Deaths from flu have plummeted since the annual  vaccination became available. There is no vaccine for Covid-19.

Both depend on age and condition.

3.8. Please do not use unusual fonts or text sizes. You may post in different colours, but to accentuate a quoted passage or to assist in understanding in some other way.

But I guess forum favourites can get away with murder...

Thanks for that Pat,but there are no forum favourites we do have a life beyond here and get to stuff as and when.

You took a few words which Cromwell wrote out of their context, which was sarcasm against the conspiracy theorists. To me, Cromwell seems fully aware of the threat, as do you and the government.

In respect to counting new cases, there has been a change. First we were checking everyone who rang 111 and thought they had a cough. Now they are only testing people upon admission to hospital, so it is a new set of data with different parameters.

This accounts for a change in the death / confirmed infections rate.

Prepare for the government to  go to the mattresses. At tonight's press conference he intimated that he would need to go online or use tech in future but promised journos that he would do it in a way to allow them questions.

Camp beds and provisions pictured at No 10 back door. London not going into lockdown? We'll see.
