The nearest town to me has had empty streets for years.

Borchester

I was sitting on the wall and one of my neighbours came up and said, " Notice anything? The street is empty. Coronavirus."

And I replied, "Bollocks. The street is empty because it is pissing down with rain."

And he said, "The government ought to do something"

And I replied, "Do what? Have a word with God and tell Him to stop the rain?"

And my neighbour sighed and went on his way and left me sitting in the rain because I didn't have enough sense to get out of it.

I watched it and didn't get that impression. Admittedly the economy is as important, but no more so than people's health. According to my Mum**, a nurse, NHS front line staff and carers are being kept up to speed on the developing situation and how to respond — the elderly and people with existing health problems are specifically addressed.

**Here's the NHS site which has advice for clinicians on Coronavirus (COVID-19)...

PS: I am concerned about my Mum because she is in the front line and nearly 60...

Well you are right to be concerned about your mum, however this doesn't bear out with what you say in the rest of your post https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/04/move-to-weekly-uk-coronavirus-updates-criticised-by-experts">//https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/04/move-to-weekly-uk-coronavirus-updates-criticised-by-experts poor decision IMO.

You have a valid concern. I have been told that I am very high risk so have very real concerns of my own. I would hope not to make your Mum's job any harder and I think that's a really big responsibility for all of us. I am almost battened down already and view inside my house as my safe zone.

As far as the press conference went I felt that they hid it pretty well but the main reason they won't/can't really 'protect' us is for fear the economy will dive. Understandable of course, so we will have to accept whatever comes. I feel that there is a chance that if I turn up at the NHS I will probably be one of those put on a back burner while younger fitter ones are saved. I am ok with that. Que sera!

As I said somewhere else the economy is going to be the first consideration. It was fairly evident in BJ's press conference yesterday. Anyway a few oldies incinerated might benefit the rest! I have to say that's the impression some young whipper snapper pundits are giving. Are they not worried about their older relatives? I just wonder how seriously many are taking this.

The Boots offer is a  Pneumonia Vaccination, not a flu jab. I suspect the £70 price tag is because of a few mentions that Covid-19 has caused pneumonia...

Save your money! From NHS site:-

Do vaccines against pneumonia protect against coronavirus?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is so new and different that it needs its own vaccine.

Although the pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine is not effective against coronavirus, it is still recommended that you have it if offered to you because it can protect against other illnesses.

Naughty!

Meanwhile in Spain:

Spain has reported its first death from the coronavirus. On Tuesday night, authorities in the Valencia region announced that a 69-year-old man who died of pneumonia on February 13 had contracted the disease, as confirmed by a post-mortem test conducted recently.

That death was 3 weeks ago and they've just announced it. Wouldn't want to affect their tourism, would they?

One recommendation I have had from USA is that actually just washing hands is not enough. The poster - who claims to have worked in highly infectious situations - says we should strip all clothes into the wash and shower including washing hair. It suggests we are all doomed. I am quite grateful that I didn't follow through on a plan I had many years ago to work/live in the States.
