Even the BBC admitted today that in the last few days the rate of increase in new cases is declining. The Chinese have got the problem licked. I knew they would.

Your misplaced faith in China is illustrated here.

There is no decline.

Have you read that the Chinese are considering culling all those infected and disposing of the bodies?

Have you read that the Chinese ambassador would not rule out the virus escaping from their own bio warfare lab?

Do you believe Chinese official figures? Governments just lie.

The UK government now have the power to detain anyone with the virus to isolate them.

It's so difficult to know who to believe:

815 dead, worldwide.

Looks like pick a number.

Confirmed cases may be slowing down in China, but new cases are being confirmed elsewhere. And so far only one death has occurred outside China. But already coronavirus has now killed 813 people. The Sars epidemic killed 774 people in 25 countries...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

The current death / infection rate in China is in the region of 2%.

I was just wondering what that might look like in the UK, if everyone got it in the next 12 months, it might mean 1,300,000 extra deaths.

The average death rate in the UK is 500,000 a year, about 10,000 a week.

The undertakers would need to take on extra staff!

That 2% is of the serious cases that are so ill that they need to present to hospital. Nobody knows how many none critical cases there are that simply fight it off under home quarantine or who never develop more than very mild symptoms.

2% of hospitalised cases is no more than you get with seasonal flu.

2019 nCoV - nasty yes, Ebola no.

I rarely do this, but I have found these Videos by long term Beijing resident Nathan Rich, very well presented, argued and very informative.

Definitely worth a watch.

I think he gives a sensible perspective on things, often lost in the hysterical media hype.

(Still cant figure out this YouTube embed feature???)

OK Sampan first off click the youtube, top right menu bar paste the link in to it and then delete everything before and including the =

voila you are ready to rock and roll.

In fairness Sampan I was aware of the swine flu issue and have credited China and its actions on this in past posts also saying no govts are to be trusted and nothing can be taken for granted..

There is of course capital being made by the US because it is apparent they are at the beginning of long term decline whilst China is in the ascendancy, that doesn't detract that there are legitimate issues on some of the handling of this.

You mean unlike in the arctic reaches of Thailand and the Philippines?

Yes that's the one . We will have to see if the virus takes off in the hotter spots which would be a completely different ball game
