As explained wages can't go up, and don't you think the government has dished enough out in handouts over the last 2 years?

So let millions fall into utter destitution, triggering a severe and prolonged recession in which thousands of businesses and jobs will go to the wall?

There are plenty of financial resources in this country. We are still a rich country.  It is how those resources are distributed that needs to be rethought.

But you always seem to be self-servingly advocating giving the rich even more whilst giving the poor even less.

When it comes to tax cuts, helping the poorest workers proportionately more is best achieved by raising thresholds rather than by cutting base rates.

Well either wages keep pace with inflation. Or welfare top ups make up the slack. Or most of us get poorer, many suffer destitution, and we get a prolonged and severe recession because no one has any spare cash to spend. And your man selling coffee beans goes bust because of people cutting back on coffee beans.

There are no easy answers but just letting people get poorer is the worst outcome for everyone.

Average real terms pay has declined by 3% in just 3 months. This is unprecedented. This will make most of us poorer, and millions are seriously struggling already. And it will surely drive us into a deep recession if this continues, especially when the expected further energy price hikes hit.

So what do you suggest? Putting wages up by any chance?
If I have a coffee business the price of the raw beans will most likely have gone up so how does the business afford to put everyone's wages up also without another price hike in the jars of coffee? All that's done is raw materials up 1 step, wages up 1 step, jar of coffee up 2 steps, which has the exact effect of you not getting a pay rise. The only solution is to solve the problem of the raw beans price, which at the moment is predominantly Putin.
