You're assuming the Department of defence doesnt run a tight ship and are  throwing mud .

Awarding government contracts with no bidding process and no due diligence is corruption.

So we need say a stealth drone , what do we do , let everyone know what we want and ask them to give us a price ,finnally settling on getting France to make it for us ......or

Do it ourselves employing thousands of British workers using one of the best high tec arms manufacturers in the world . Cost though a consideration is not as important keeping it all in house

You can't see a problem?  You cannot be serious, £billions in contracts being handed out with no tendering and no due diligence, is a very big scandal.

Im sure any staff brought in are vetted as much as government employees ,official secrets act signed as suchlike .

More than 50 paid employees of global arms companies are working inside the UK's Ministry of Defence, openDemocracy can reveal, sparking questions about conflicts of interest and national security.
They include nine staffers on long-term secondment from the UK's biggest weapons manufacturer, BAE Systems, some of whom have been embedded inside the department for years.
Last year, the company made more than £4.1bn in sales from the MoD, boasting about its "strong and long-standing relationships" with the UK government. Almost all of this money was spent through contracts that were awarded without competitive tender.
