Frankly most of the contributors to the other forum are well outside of social norms. If they behaved out in public how they do on that forum they would soon change their behaviour.

Are we talking about that forum that changed its hosting to Pro Boards a few months ago?

Anyway, I'd just like to let you all know that the other forum is still there, however it is not all it seems. It's a free forum, which means either someone is paying (like Nick, thank you) or in the other forum case, you are the product for advertising. It also means that proboards get to choose what is allowed or not. And can they ever own the posts and database? They talk about freedom of speech, but it's an illusion.

This forum has allowed all sorts of views and continues to do so. I won't be posting on said "Other Forum" and "Steve K's" old ukdebate2 forum is well and truly decimated. So every cloud has a silver lining.

That has precisely zero to do with being lied about continually, personally attacked and abused continually about matter that have ZERO to do with the thread or the forum. I am also shocked at the pig ignorance about current affairs shown buy far too many people holding opinions that are based on how things were 50 years ago, not currently.

On that forum's predecessor for example where there was little to no moderation available,  anti social types were free to abuse people in any way they could imagine. Sometimes just for their LOLs other times because they were unable to get over their own prejudices.
The response of those people unable to get rid of predators in their midst, was commonly to verbally abuse them and be as mean as possible to them in the hope of getting rid of them or socialising them.

On many occasions those who shared the political partisan of said anti social types viewed these socialisation/social exclusion attempts as bullying.
Which of course is exactly what it is.


Being pig ignorant of current affairs is not justification for calling the police.
Nor is someone personally abusing you on an internet forum.

What made the Nazi's bad was not their wanting an NHS or workers rights, the reunification of the German people or even an end to the aristocratic hierarchy.
What made them bad is that if you openly disagreed with them or they did not approve of you in some other way, they sent men in uniform to deal with you.

This is not a role model for you to mimic. No matter how much contempt you hold other people in.


You appear to want an environment where you can call people you disagree with pig ignorant, but if they call you names back the forum admin will step in on your side.


I prefer that either no one is allowed to insult others. Or everyone is.
The later being preferred because as previously noted, when you are saying something totally stupid, public ridicule is the most effective method to get you to realise this.
While engaging with it seriously only seeks to reinforce your self belief that you have come out with something worth taking seriously.

In an educational environment sometimes it is necessary to deploy put downs against students who seek to advance counter knowledge. All part of the socialisation process.

It is media control of politics which here we have tried to avoid as much as possible, makes it a much better place overall. When people come along and say it is quiet it means we are winning the fight.

That I wish to live in a society that not only tolerates this but expects it to be the social norm.
That I am both able and willing to engage with people in civil discourse without any expectation whatsoever of their agreement with my points of view or I theirs.

That when I lose an argument or get banned from a forum for being an arse, I don't try and take it further and f**k people over in real life to the maximum of my ability because they said something I find to be disagreeable.
(Or as is more truthful, because I hold prejudices that I am unwilling to overcome).
