And the cost of a minor heart attack is in the region of $750,000.
A bar tender in somewhere like Chilis makes around $40K, in NYC at a decent restaurant it is as high as a $1000 a day in tips, you pay the restaurant a % to work there.
A totally different payscape and completely irrelevant.

Strange you should mention New York pay — we've recently been involved in comparative pay research across a range of hospitality work there. Can't find anything like your waiter, but an October Chili's Grill and Bar job ad had pay at $20,870 a year, though no tips info included.

However, NYC average bartender earnings are itemised at $20 per hour, with tips of $250 a day. Length of shift isn't given, but the figures indicate a take $410 for a 8h day or $490 for a 12h day.

Are you sure your "decimal point" isn't wandering again...?

There are in fact well over 110,000 vacancies across the NHS. I was incorrect in saying these were all for nurses. Your figures might be more accurate for them. But still, 1in 10 nursing positions are unfilled as are 1 in 17 doctors positions, so there is still an obvious recruitment crisis....

Your point is still valid. It seems to me we have under-invested in nurse training and doctor training, relying on immigrant workers, (especially EU). We should be training enough nurses annually to replace those retiring plus enough to cater for the increased demand owing to immigration.
I mean proper trained nurses, although assistants and minions are also in short supply.
Such a cherished workforce should automatically receive increases in line with inflation.

They might not get shot at, but they do have to deal with people's bodily fluids and solids, and awkward patients who are sometimes violent due to their illness. It takes a special type of person to enjoy being a good nurse. Pay them the money.

Are military headcounts relevant?

The US, alone, has 4.2 million registered nurses — with an average salary of $77,600 per year — out of a total 20 million healthcare and social assistance workers.

https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2020/10/health-care-still-largest-united-states-employer.html

So it could be argued that adequate pay gets enough employees...
What is the mode average salary in the US BTW? Without that it means nothing: if someone is on a grand a day and another on nothing the average is 500 a day, that doesn't help the guy on nothing.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

And the reason for the vacancies is because the population in this country is at least 10 million more than it should be.

I've told you a million times not to exaggerate, Steve.

There are a lot of vacancies, but according to the Nursing Times, it is 46,828.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some of us have yachts. Some of us have canoes. Some of us are drowning.

And like I've told you before, they don't get shot at and they get to sleep in their own bed every night.
Most people don't get shot at.

And most people don't find themselves rostered with 12-hour shifts of 7pm to 7am, thus unable "to sleep in their own bed every night"...

I doubt nurses in the US (a profession not too dissimilar to that of nurses in the UK) depend on tips or pay to work in hospital — unlike many hairdressers in the UK, who pay to rent their chair...

So do most people, including you who earn a lot more than nurses do for doing a lot less judging by the time you have available for this forum.

I do not begrudge it to you but you do seem determined to fail to recognise what a bum and ever worsening deal nurses have. Must they get shot at too before you'll respect them?

It has been a long time since I last saw a post of such stupendous ignorance and stupidity, utterly clueless about the jobs nurses do.

According to the above, the NHS employs 1.4 millions directly with another 1.6 millions as care workers.

That makes 3 millions or a labour force greater than the US and Indian military combined and still Steve is demanding more..

It is not me demanding more. The NHS has over 100,000 unfilled hospital nursing vacancies. These vacancies are not there at my request, lol.

Quite, the nastiness of some people knows no bounds.
Hard words Pappy, Steve is on your side, although I have to say that is small cause for comfort.
