Egg shortages 'could just be the start' as UK is 'sleepwalking' into food supply crisis, farmers union warns | UK News | Sky News

""I fear the country is sleepwalking into further food supply crises, with the future of British fruit and vegetable supplies in trouble.""

UK sleepwalking into food supply crisis, says farming union - BBC News
The UK is third on the world food security index according to the Global Food Security Index, that's 6 places above the USA.

Not like the NFU to try and gain a little sympathy from the public, lots of if's and but's, but ultimately due to fuel costs caused by the Ukraine War, nothing to do with Brexit.

https://www.chathamhouse.org/2022/09/uk-trade-and-war-ukraine/rising-prices-exacerbate-cost-living-crisis

"Although the UK imports comparatively little energy, food and raw materials from Ukraine, domestic prices for many products are set according to global conditions. This means that the costs of energy and food have risen significantly as a result of the conflict, even though the UK does not depend directly on many supply chains from Ukraine."

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Farmers who voted to leave the European Union have admitted Brexit will put many in the industry out of business.
One farmer told Byline TV that although he is a lifelong Tory voter, it would be "very, very unlikely" that he would vote for them again.
Another Brexiteer farmer announced "a lot of farmers will go under".
"It's just inevitable, it's going to be a big challenge," he added.

But farmers are always moaning...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Every major news outlet TODAY, really. You forgot to tell the BBC and SKY News as I just looked on their websites and I didn't find anything TODAY about farmers going bust, even on the BBC's farming section.

Nick so you don't have a clue what is happening in the UK because you are not here. The food security issue and Brexit stopping crops being picked has  been a major news item on every national news outlet all day today. (As well as farmers going bust or getting out of the industry or cutting down on what they are planting for harvest next year.

Borchester there is no need for personal insults plus you are totally out of touch with current rates of pay for seasonal workers.(Which have been well publicised.)
Finally, the term SEASON WORKER is used. You mean the people who came over to the UK to work every year, and then for 2 years couldn't because of COVID, and now most likely have work in their own countries and don't want to come over here and work for a pittance. But you blame it on Brexit as you do everything, it makes it easier and you don't have to think. Maybe they don't want to come back because they have been exploited for years by greedy farmers who paid them nothing and kept them under the radar and out of the UK tax system. Maybe you're advocating 60 workers sleeping in a chicken broiler and working form dawn til dusk for no pay. Oh, the poor farmer, that have been getting free money off the EU and slave labour for years, strange how your socialist values have gone down the tube isn't it. All we need to do now is bring the great unwashed into the dole office and tell them to pick fruit or get your benefits stopped. That'll soon get the price of your invisible Pairs down again.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Now 4% has moved on, it's now the level at which food security is at risk. Tesco and the like have always played farmers and squoze them until their eyes pop out, that is nothing new. If they had the minerals they'd all get together and not provide them with anything until they got a fair price, but then you'd all moan that 5p has gone on a bag of carrots.
By the way, they don't tend to broadcast Radio 4 in St Petersburg.

Nick I am not being hysterical I am keeping up with events, had you listened to the BBC Radio 4 farming program this morning and looked at news bulletins, food security in Britain is under very real threat, due to lack of workers due to Brexit effecting fruit and veg and farmers being paid under the cost of production for meat, dairy production, and eggs, by supermarkets.

Nope, Nick is right.

You are a hysterical old fool and the farmers are short on workers because they refuse to pay a decent rate.

Borchester if you bothered to keep up with current affairs you would realise how serious serious the situation is.

The records of the daily farming program on BBC Radio 4 at 05.45 hours every day are easily available.

Pork sales to the EU are so bad that they are increasing and are nearly at Pre-Covid levels. Try again!!

Ah, how like our dear friend Gerry.

The minute we left the EU and the Irish closed down the pork and beef mines and I starved to death, my wife said, well, you could afford to lose a few pounds

:)
