There is an automatic censor on the forum.
Must be tough for a poster with their thoughts and vocabulary mainly limited to profanities...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

Another two years of Tory incompetence and the country will be fubared. (Expletive deleted) up beyond all recognition.

This is one of those news items where frankly I don't know what to comment, (yet.)

Homeless charity staff

More than 600 workers at the housing and homeless charity Shelter are beginning an unprecedented fortnight of strike action on Monday 5 December in a dispute over pay.
I took the liberty of merging this Smurfy as it deserves airing and this topic was not originally all about public schools.

Another example of charities that are less than charitable with a large reserve that doesn't want to pay its workers that it employed
Energy....secure and affordable, not that hard is it?

Most senior schools use this type of testing around 16 - 18yrs. I have used one of the systems that many Schools use and it takes at most an hour.
Isn't it too late by then?

Pupils need assessing while there's still time for any remedial or specialised measures to actually have an effect, other than throwing them on the scrap heap...?

Well I have and had a decent curry, however that does not represent the rest of Britain......as neither do public schools :P
No but it makes my point that society in general is going down the toilet, and it's nothing to do with the Tories before the Turquoise Titch pipes up.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I have a feeling that no matter who is in Government it will still be chaos just a different colour. There is a general malaise invading the world and little that any Government can change. Starmer is all talk and no trousers until he gets into Downing St and faces the truth and measures it against his own fantasy.
Year on year there is less and less respect in this country, youths breaking into old peoples homes and beating them to death for the change in their purse. Anyone dare tell children to clear off these days? You're likely to get stabbed. And this is the level of culture that is permeating our state schools, there are some good children for sure but the bad ones seem to breed bad ones. I can a clip round the head of both teachers and the Police, I didn't tell my dad or I'd have got another one, these days the parents would be round with all the F's under the Sun.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Go and have walk down the curry mile after 10 o'clock, you'll see the future of this country and it isn't good.

I didn't say that and I think you'll find our resident foodbank expert is smurfy. ;)

You pick out one in a very few schools that are doing that instead of the more common as I posted, what you omit to add is most of that money comes from old duffers who once went to eton or what percentage covers the whole cost.

That you want to cling on to an anachronistic system and can only pile obstacles in the way......it can't be done, there are bad parents out there is frankly dismissive of the majority the young people who will become this country and whatever their background deserve better than your pursuit of status quo and maintaining a small elite.

Quote from: papasmurf on December 05, 2022, 05:46:11 PMThey are still used to assess wounded soldiers and some people with mental illness.
And once again you prove my point, they're used to assess character and attitude.
The army always wants to know how smart a wounded soldier is or someone with a mental illness.
They are tested against a previous test to pick out changes in mental state like PTSD.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

So nothing is worth having unless it is dominated by the State and appears totally free. I'm surprised you are not going for Food Banks

1 in 20 are scholarships at places like Eton, that is a very generous amount.

Those are not the tests I am referring to, they would only be partial tests.

If that's all true, there's no way every child can be subjected to eight hours of testing, however many you cram into a testing room.

Isn't it better to first get pupils in the educational environment, test them regularly to see how they're doing, and put them into groups with tailored teaching according to their needs...?
They can be "subjected" eight hours of testing, it is not a competition or an exam they are assessments, and don't need to be carried out in one go.

(Most children will have toys very similar to the dexterity tests.)
