Yes they do Pat, visa's are verified when you check-in as carriers are fined for transporting passengers with incorrect or missing visa's.
The internet is littered with examples of what happens but he won't admit he's wrong.

There are TV programs on a regular basis on Freeview which are filmed at various borders,airports) (The USA, Canada, Ireland, Britain, Australia and New Zealand and sometimes other.) People with no visa or the wrong visa get taken away in handcuffs on a regular basis.

Not my mainstream viewing, but aren't they usually arrested for breaching importation rules...?

Man bites dog effect.  And anyway I've watched those programmes and it's never as simple as plane diverted.  Usually it's trying to enter the USA illegally, with illegal material or having tried to elude justice.

Certainly seems strange that someone who checks and prepares so thoroughly for travelling to Canada near (or through) US airspace wasn't aware of the coming new requirements for voter ID...

I am well aware of the impending requirements for voter ID but with only weeks to go before it is enforced only 10000 people out of the million who will need it have registered to get the ID.
