Saw this from ONS.

What's interesting is the divergence between volume and value (aka inflation) started in early/mid 2021.

I going to suggest it was the end of the transition period and the UK no longer being treated as if it were in the EU for trading purposes.

Anyone got any other ideas? Covid effects delayed by 18months? The diesel-gate scandal? A nationwide subconscious premonition of the invasion of Ukraine?
Definitely it was mostly Covid as many other countries experienced the same.  2020 saw massive cuts in production world wide leading to us entering 2021 with a demand>supply classic cause of inflation.  And then just when we were getting over that the Ukraine crisis hit.

You can see it for example in international spot oil prices that were depressed in 2020 and started rising in early 2021
