Getting a reasonable and healthy future looks like being nearly impossible...

Particularly with you driving your gas guzzler up and down the hills and dales of Stoke Newington to a litre of your favourite mineral water.

is falling or this bull? An industry that brings in masses of revenue and he's going to drop it to placate some 18 year of autistic girl?
Is anyone actually falling for this?

It's a bit like the little boy and the King's New Clothes.

Industrialised countries built their wealth on coal, then oil, then gas — and the producers made thousands of millions and paid the exchequers in these countries hundreds of millions in taxes, licences and fees. This made these countries' leaders beholden and grateful to the fossil fuel producers — and in turn, the citizens of these countries were also grateful for having the conveniences, luxuries and wealth fossil fuels provided. And almost everyone ignored the deaths, harms and illnesses caused by production and using of fossil fuels.

But one young individual spoke out and pointed a finger at the continuing and growing (and in many cases, irreversible) harm being inflicted on the people of the world by themselves, while in thrall to the fossil fuel producers, industrialists, and money makers that traded in what was produced. And, because of noticeable climate change and the damage it caused, this one individual was noticed.

Those who had thought similarly, felt able to voice their opinions too. Soon, the vast majority of relevant scientists and technologies also felt freed to consult together and publish their concerns. And now most of the industrialised world and its leaders recognise that fossil fuels and climate change are connected and the harm they can jointly inflict.

****

Think back to the battle that common sense and truth had to wage against the tobacco industry decades ago — and today look at the number of people who are still willingly killing themselves and harming others.

Getting a reasonable and healthy future looks like being nearly impossible...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

we do need to cut our emissions.
Locally we are getting zero emissions buses.  But the passengers won't be zero emissions.

I think it's more than one person, support for carbon reduction is very high amongst younger generations, who are the ones who are going to have to live with the consequences (unlike the older posters here)

we do need to cut our emissions.

phasing down (not out totally) oil and gas use would seem to be a very good goal.

The fossil fuel industry has (unsurprisingly) shown itself incapable of actually doing that.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
