For the past 20 odd years I have often attended a St Georges golf day on the 23rd apart from the years it falls on a weekend when its held on the following Monday .

Chance to  skive off work meet up with some old pals and sink a few pints .

I don't recall ever having a day off work to celebrate St Andrews Day to be honest. As for an anthem, of course we unofficially have Flower of Scotland. What surprises me is the amount of celebrations surrounding St Patrick's Day, seems like a huge deal all around the world, and I always wonder why!

When I was a lad all the girls in my part of London wore green on St Patrick's Day, which gave us the opportunity to ask if that meant everything and could we see. It was probably due to the amount of Bushmill they mixed in with their Babycham, but amazingly enough it sometimes worked.

Some people claim the English are discriminated against because they're discouraging from celebrating Saint George's Day, and they don't have their own anthem. It's true April 23 is not a bank holiday, unlike St. Andrew's Day in Scotland and St. Patrick's Day in Ireland, and they (and Wales) also have anthems they can sing at the Six Nations.

I can't help with an Anthem (the most popular suggestions seem to be Jerusalem, or Land of Hope and Glory), but here's a link to 26 St. George's Day celebrations around the country:

I once lived near Stratford on Avon and Shakespeare - who lived there - had his birthday on St George's day. It was always a really big day there.
