I think that was more 'deep Tory' than deep state!
Probably but they wouldn't have got away with it without help from the doomsayers of the money markets

There's a lot of mention of so-called 'deep states' within western countries - USA, UK, the EU, whatever.

Deep state seems to be a general purpose term for a hidden power structure that supposedly puts pressure on the visible government to bend to its will. The right see the deep state as liberal, degenerate, socialist and politically correct, while the left sees the deep state as being fascist, anti-progressive and pro-oil.

We all know there are people operating behind the scenes to get strings pulled, but that's a long way from there being a co-ordinated deep state.

So I'm left with the deep state being no more than conspiracy theorists' invention that they can blame for things they can't blame on anyone else.

Most countries have secret security services which generally act to protect national security but do these really involve themselves in domestic politics in a clandestine way?

Sounds a load of bollocks if you will pardon me for saying so.

My automatic assumption is that anyone in a position of authority is a treacherous, lying son of a bitch until proven otherwise. Unless my freedom of movement or speech is particularly restricted, then I am not overly bothered about what the powers that be get up too. The only thing that particularly gets to me is how cack handed most of these alleged conspiracies are.
