Police show up to a mugging. 

Police: What's happened?
Victim: I've been mugged. 
Police: Who by?
Victim: Them. 
Police: Them? Where did they go?
Victim: They went down there.
Police: How many were there?
Victim: One you idiot. 
Police:  One?
Victim: Yes one, they/them are their pronouns.
