Some numbers on pensions and the winter fuel payment

The winter fuel payment is £200 to £300 (let's say £300)

In 2022-23 the pension was £185 a week. With an extra £5.75 a week for the £300 winter fuel that makes £193 a week round numbers. In today's money that is £200

In 23-24 the pension went up to £203 a week or £208 with the full fuel allowance. That's about £210 today

In 2024-25 it was £221 a week.

Next year it looks to be an above inflation increase to around £230 a week

The problem is fiscal drag has cost OAPs with meagre private pensions a lot of money in income tax. In my wife and I's case will lose the winter fuel allowance and over £1000 due to fiscal drag. (Many people are losing a lot more.)
