He's seen pictures on Facebook and in the Mail — or perhaps neighbours report that a friend told them...

Yes, people who believe the 5G thing are indeed quite brain dead. With regards to the rest. I live 7 miles away from one of the countries busiest holiday resorts, and the place is dead. I would seriously take the pictures on facebook and the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt.

What are you doing travelling 7 miles to know that? Haven't you heard it's a lockdown?

I think our current culture is inundated with information, in a way which can make any narrative seem possible, by diluting the certainty provided by few narratives.

Adam Curtis made a short a few years ago about about 'how we all became like Nixon - paranoid weirdos' I think the hallmarks of that short can be seen in the reactions by some to 5G, COVID19, and any other number of "how stupid is this person?" stories.
Don't believe everything you think.

There aren't more stupid people than I think.  There seems to be more idiots as time passes.

They're still crowding in parks and on beaches. Open car parks in forest and woodland are full of cars. And on the other end of the stupidity balance there are people believing G5 is transmitting novel coronavirus alongside its tendency to cause many ailments from cancer to infertility.

Even YouTube has been stirred into action to counter this one bit of misinformation...

Setting fire to Gatso cameras I can understand. And there used to be a poster on here or a predecessor forum, who wore a tin foil hat and used an e-meter to define ailments caused by smart meters and colour TV sets, etc. But believing cell phone masts transmit a virus — could it be that G5 addles the brain and leads to terminal stupidity...?
