Many countries are rumoured to have much higher death tolls than their official figures.  A quick Google search will find such claims about France, Spain and Italy, for example.

I dont think anyone disputes that most countries will have to slightly adjust  , to a lesser or greater degree , death toll figures at the end of all this.

Thats goes without saying.

If the F.T story is correct , the uk isnt slightly out , its more than 50 % out on its government figures.

Add that to the farcical situation the uk daily announcement only includes hospital registered deaths from covid 19 , with the puerile caveat we know they are wrong , but we will adjust them later( when we work out how to dumb them down further) when every one outside the tory party faithfull and gullbile know they are bollocks is unbelievable.

This is north korea style levels of propaganda.

You mention France......France includes care home figures in its death toll , the uk doesnt.

Trying to bury the uk death toll in other countries failings is laughable , when across the globe the uk is fast becoming recognised as having among the worst response to covid 19 in the developed world.

OK if we're going here then I have to say we're only the worst because the Chinese have better ways of covering things up

And we have absolutely NO way to know what the real picture in that state controlled shithole really is.

So I'm sorry. I quite happily accept that published UK figures are bollox because nobody is counting them properly but to say we're the worst in the world when much of it is deliberately lying through its teeth as policy ??

I agree with you john.

The point is i hardly think its a winning formula in using chinas lack of transparency as a gauge  and saying they are worse than the uk.

If you read the story they arent saying the uk is the worst , but based on numbers the second worse in the world  , certainly the western world.

Frankly we have no idea what the true picture in the UK is either.

Final death statistics have a time lag of around a year.

I suspect there are going to be  a lot of empty/near empty nursing homes in the not too distant future.

While small business are struggling to apply fo the uk governments poorly enacted furlough scheme ( among others ) , which only just opened for claims 2 days ago despite much heralded government announcement weeks ago , billionaires like sir philip green , who pays himself a record 1.2 billion but wont pay tax as it is paid to his wife tina in monaco , asks the uk government for a bailout for his topshop empire.

Meanwhile , countries in the "nasty " european union like Denmark and Poland , are telling business no national tax paid , no feckin bailout from taxpayers...

If true it would make the uk the second worst state in the entire world after the united states. A small island off the coast of europe that could fit inside the state of texas , only just behind the 330 million inhabitant USA , which is 40 times bigger than the uk and has 6 times the population.

QuoteCoronavirus death toll in UK twice as high as official figure
[/b]

Quote   The coronavirus pandemic has already caused as many as 41,000 deaths in the UK, according to a Financial Times analysis of the latest data from the Office for National Statistics.

The estimate is more than double the official figure of 17,337 released by ministers on Tuesday, which is updated daily and only counts those who have died in hospitals after testing positive for the virus.

The FT extrapolation, based on figures from the ONS that were also published on Tuesday, includes deaths that occurred outside hospitals updated to reflect recent mortality trends.

The analysis also supports emerging evidence that the peak of deaths in the UK occurred on April 8 with the mortality rate gradually trending lower since, despite the 823 hospital deaths announced on Tuesday, which were sharply up on the 449 in the previous 24 hours.
