Well this is probably over reaction - if you carry out correct social distancing and, for example, only stay outside an stay a good distance from others, you are in less danger than you are in from your own home catching fire.

Javert, I have been told by my GP and the NHS to not even go outside of my property due to my age and combination of medical problems.

I am NOT going ignore that advice except for exceptional circumstances, like the post surgery eye check I had a month ago.

The only thing in the absence of a vaccine that will give me any confidence is a Porton suit.

Well I was wondering what I'd get on ebay for one listed as "one careful owner (still very much alive)"

Not very much, but all the military surplus ones seem to be have been sold.

Quite, but I did mean a new one.

Not convinced I'd trust mine after all this time... I think the seals perish.

Fortunately for me, I don't watch TV news.   :barf:

Now, as someone with little experience of CT scans, having only had 1 that I recall, you'll need to help me here.  What do these CHINESE scans show?  Pneumonia?  Or are they unique to CV19?

I do not think there is a Covid 19 specific symptom here.

The virus attacks the cells lining the alveoli of the lung which have the ace2 receptor which it uses to enter the cell.

At this point the damage it does is akin to that of the coal miner, asbestos worker and prostate cancer sufferer.

Cell death, fluid and pus. Blocked alveoli. Death.

However the effect on the confidence of people to get out and about might be significant as having the mask on might make them feel safer.

I see Boris Johnson is now suggesting that face masks would be useful when we come out of lockdown.  I'm sure that's true, but in that case why not  come straight out and say they'd actually be useful now?

I can just imagine the scenario in a confrontation at a supermarket . . .

"Why you wearin' a mask, pal?   We ain't even out of £^%&ing lockdown yet."

Probably because with a virus like this, face masks is to some extent more of a behavioural science issue than a true pure science one.

The effect of face masks on the virus spread, IF people are following social distancing rules already, is minimal.  In fact there is a risk it could make it worse by giving people a false sense of security and/or infecting them when they don't change the mask often enough.

The evidence from a pure medical point of view is that if worn, put on, and taken off, correctly, and changed often enough, masks can have some beneficial effect particularly for preventing someone who's already infected from infecting others.

However the effect on the confidence of people to get out and about might be significant as having the mask on might make them feel safer.

I'm not an expert like Papasmurf with these 'black' x-rays,

I am not an expert but I know someone who is, and Covid-19 is obvious at post mortem.

Barry

I'm not an expert like Papasmurf with these 'black' x-rays, but they show bilateral pneumonia. The fluid and pus are radio opaque so they call it ground glass opacity on CT scans.

There is, black lungs when the corpse is X-rayed. (Unless there is a lot of old fashioned coal mining going on no-one is aware of.)

They are not x-rays, of course. X-rays show WHITE - ground glass effect for the pneumonia.
