I'm not surprised.  When the police take the piss for too long, people push back.

What bit of stay at home don't people understand?

This article explains police issuing fines for people who had travelled to North Yorkshire to go walking over the weekend.

This is getting rather confusing,

This is getting rather confusing, because about a week ago, the police issued clarifications saying that travelling in a car to go walking is legal as long as you spend a lot longer walking than driving.

Now, if these people had driven for hours to get there, when there were suitable places much closer, they are arguably not complying with the spirit of the lockdown.

However, if they are maintaining social distancing at all times, the only danger I see is if they have a car accident or break down and cause pressure on the emergency services.

I do wonder if this will backfire as people start to see that there is no risk of catching coronavirus from someone walking through a forest 2 miles from you.

At the least, I suspect that if those people refuse to pay the fines, the police will have a hard time enforcing it because there is no legal basis for fining those people unless you can show that they spent less time walking than they did driving.
