Governments might be tempted to play down the figures so the population don't get too scared. On the other hand wouldn't governments want their populations to be scared because that would make most people more careful and more receptive to any restrictions that are needed.

Given that covid-19 is definitely not a hoax and nor were 9/11 or the holocaust, claiming they were is in bad taste just as much as claiming that the the Somme or Ypres were a hoaxes would be.

Obviously coronavirus is not a hoax, many of us will by now know of someone who's been seriously ill or died from it. There  have been over 27,000 deaths in UK attributable to covid-19, most of those within the last 4 weeks.

OK I will bite



They are of course pointing to the computer models that overshoot the worst case scenario and complain that the reality is nothing like that.



In a way, I wish they would get their way, but I fear if they do, none of the business owners and bankers would suffer, only the minimum wage labour they have making their fortunes for them who are of course too poor to have any medical cover and can just go die in the gutter.



Because the fact is, if they get this and they get it seriously, they **WILL** die.



The Americans in particular have this rose tinted picture of the great united states medical profession, the greatest in the world by virtue of being the highest paid in the world by virtue of charging the most and having to waste most of those fees on professional liability insurance ... having the answer to everything.
