It was chosen as a conscious attempt to be humorous. I think a cat that looks so much like Hitler is funny.

And subliminally it also provides a kind of striking dichotomy between good and evil - the cuteness of a domestic cat with broad nods towards the evil of Hitler, which for me kind of neutralises that latter and helps make Hitler a figure of fun. There is nothing Hitler would have hated more than being laughed at.
