Seriously I can see some very nasty outcomes. Certainly anyone with a campervan that was kicked of sites on Monday still in the area could well get a warm welcome involving a gallon of petrol and a match.

Guns N' Arson — seems like a real Appetite for Destruction...
On climate change — we're talking, we're beginning to act, but we're still not doing enough...

They are probably attracted to the warm welcome. :hattip

You cancelled your trip because the door was closed on you at your intended destination.

I cancelled my trip, we had booked it some time ago.  We still have second home owners coming to Cornwall after the lock down. (Some of them are being very stroppy about it as well.)

The key word is some which you repeated and I posted in bold in the OP.

And as with your other post some second homers arrived before the lockdown.

Because it was NOT panic purchased. It has been build up over decades and sorted every so often for items reaching use by dates, which are the used and replaced.

Some panic buyers have purchased so many bog rolls there cannot be room left in their homes to sit down.

It was well illustrated too by Greg B who asked the question why the people who went to Cornwall pre lockdown were any different to a visit to a second home in France.

All very well smurfy but why is your long held stash of food any different and you superior to them ?

There is a tremendous difference between panic buying in order to hoard because there is a sudden crisis and having a definite long term plan. I also have several months worth of food in store which will happily sit for 25 years if it has to. That together with a smaller rotating store cupboard which has been accumulated over time is what has allowed me to not visit a supermarket for some time. We would all benefit with some forward planning so that the current situation could be avoided.

You misunderstand,of course some have panic bought, but others have tried to mitigate in the shorter term and it might have been quite wisely too.

My question to smurfy I still find valid, just because he has had a stash long term doesn't make him superior to someothers operating in the short term.

You could interpret it as a attack on smurfy,it isn't but illustrates (and as you are probably more aware than me) why do you look at the splinter in another's eye and ignore the plank in your own (or words to that effect) that is something from the bible isn't it? ;)

Don't we all at some time or other do this?

Barry

We need to ensure that we are not over reliant on other countries for any of our basic food needs and security needs. Even clothing. We should bring back the manufacture of technology items like TVs, mobile phones, and Internet switching devices to our own base.

The 5G roll-out should be cancelled. We don't need it at all. The current crisis has shown how important it isn't.

We need to provide more of our own basic foodstuffs, stop importing exotic stuff from half way around the world.

For clothing, we need to be able to provide for clothing for our own people and especially our military without relying on a potential future enemy.

In the past, I think most of our conflicts have involved France and Germany as enemies.

This crisis has pressed the reset button. In the future people will say "before the virus" and "after the virus", a bit like the WW2. Things will never be the same again. Reliance on China, especially, is extremely unwise.

...followed by the British public who don't give a crap where anything comes from provided it is half price.

Price of everything and value of nothing springs to mind, however that's a blanket condemnation of Joe public.

I don't doubt many see the value of some of the old public owned utilities and buying British too.
