The masses are said to be stupid. The people who have squirmed their way to.the top merely feel the rules they make are for others to follow.

Those of us who lived through the cold war years understand ...
<t>In matters of taxation, Lord Clyde\'s summing up in the 1929 case Inland Revenue v Ayrshire Pullman Services is worth a glance.</t>

Police in Stoke Newington last night announced the discovery of an arms cache of 200 guns with 25,000 rounds of ammunition, 20 tons of heroin, 5 million in forged Uk banknotes & 25 trafficked Ukrainian protitutes, all in a semi-detached house behind the Public toilets across the road from sainsburys. Local residents were stunned & a community spokesman said:" We're all shocked, we never knew we had any public toilets............"

Rubbish. They are pay toilets and no self respecting Pole or other East European will spend 20p when there is a wall available  :D

They were cheap lodgings, and the continuous occupation caused an outcry among the locals...

Could be. They used to inhabit the public toilets — a fairly modern octagonal building — in Stamford Hill across the road from Sainsbury's...

Mrs came back from a 30 min run and reported there were people lying on the grass and sunbathing in Clissold Park...

Apart from what is clearly spelled out, there can be no exceptions. Allowing people to bend the rules to according to their own circumstances would be impossible to control and monitor.

Anyone unable to walk for the full allowed exercise period without sitting down must understand they should only go as far as a point they can return from. Methods of delivering food and medication for the fully isolated are in place, as are recommendations for dedicated carers.

What is distinctly unacceptable is for government personnel and their advisers to flout the instructions they give to the population. Certainly, yo-yoing between homes should be an obvious no no. Like Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, they should choose one home and remain ensconced there until allowed or required to do otherwise...

UK Civil Servants like Dr Calderwood should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us , and she has been punished accordingly.

The fact remains why the "prince of wales" to give him his anglo title , was allowed to travel 600 miles from what can only be described as an area of his normal abode , to another country where he has a luxury holiday chalet where he normally spends a tiny fraction of his life , despite knowing he was unwell in clear breach of government advice?

Seems there can be no exceptions except in certain cases.( that before we even get on to scottish consrvative politicians flouting those same rules with impunity)

Answers on a postcard to stoke newingtons curtain twitching society please.  :hattip

Part of the issue here is that government believes (probably correctly) that they need to put out very simple clear consistent rules about what people should do, and be shown to set the example.

From this perspective, these actions are completely wrong and correctly critisised.

If we lived in a country where the entire population was above average intelligence (clearly technically impossible) and highly educated and sensible, the guidelines could be left much more to common sense.

For example, if this CMO for Scotland never went near anybody else during her trips, and was only all the time with the same people who are living with her, and if she had been in her normal residence for at least the last 14 days and observing social distancing when shopping 100% properly, there is actually zero risk to her or anyone else from her going to her other house.  However I can see that in a world where there are millions of simpletons (i.e. by definition there are millions of even the bottom 10% least intelligent people who won't be able to follow complex messaging), the optics are not good.

Another example - let's say you are a family of 4, living down the road from the grandparents.  Let's say that nobody in either household has been out of the house or had any close contract with anyone else for more than 14 days.  Is it ok for those people to meet up?

- Official answer - no they are not allowed to meet up.

- Scientific answer - it's fine for them to meet up because there is zero chance of them infecting each other.

However if you decide you can only send a very simple black and white message, the people sending it out should set the example.

The only legality recognised is that you won't be allowed to get away with it.

Years ago Charlie was visiting God knows where and a bloke affixed two big ears to his house.

The cops arrived and he was told if he didn't shift them they would and he'd be arrested the law thus being thou shalt not attach ears to your house. ;)
