The bar has never been that high Dyno and wont be getting raised anytime soon while we only have two party systems and career politician's to vote for .

They have PR in Israel & form Coalitions mate so that's not the issue here so much.

The issue is a criminal in office abusing the instruments of state to shield himself from his enemies.

Of course they do, where they can face daily harrassment for saying the wrong things also and possible assassination attempts, but I guess the bar for being a 'democracy' is low these days.

Not forgetting of course that Israel has a western type democracy where the people of that nation can vote Netanyahu out if they dont like the policy's .

These people were  relatively  young  people when they emerged from the horrors of the Holocaust   and for every poor survivor you will find others that are wealthy . Israel has an above average  old age pension in relation to the working wage so Im not sure exactly why these people have found themselves in the situation they are in .

The documentary just says they are poor people , every country in the World has them including our own

It's no use Dynamis it all happened a long time ago so to many it's irrelevant,history has no meaning and there's no lessons to learn.
Criticise the Israeli govt?Oh dear me no,too many conflate criticism of that govt with anti semitism ......which of course there is sadly but to lump all those as one is mistaken.

The Palestinians have been treated shabbily too but point that out and often you will be reminded of the shortcomings of Islamic culture and the problems of that region of which of course there are many but exacerbated by the interference of people like those in the Bush and Bliar administrations under the guise of freedom and democracy.
