I've always been a fast walker, but now over 40 my hips and ankles are starting to disintegrate.  Does this mean I'm getting stupid too?  Or do I have no idea what I'm talking about, and I'm in fact getting more clever?  What a conundrum.



And I'd like to complain about some really idiotic buses in London.  Takes an hour to go a mile up the road.

Semi-seriously, of course, what scientists have actually discovered is that good luck in the field of academic grant applications is directly proportionate to the number of scientists-have-discovered pieces you can get reported in the media.  (But I only know that because of how quickly I walk.)

Glory be!!  Finally!  They've acknowledged my general superiority and wonderfulness!  I'm the irritating ******* elbowing you to one side as I hurtle along the pavement.  (I'm also weedy, undynamic in every respect other than walking, and inclined to get muddled and bewildered, so the theory might need a bit of tweaking yet.)

I use a pedometer on my smart phone. I normally walk at a checked 2.4 mph. However last Wednesday I worked with a young lady, about 17, who ran around like a whippet whilst we were working together. I looked at my pedometer later and I had been walking at 2.7 mph.

I didn't do any IQ checking, she seemed a nice enough lass, just needed telling to slow down a bit. In years gone by the unions would have told her not to work so fast.
