Didnt the english poet John Donne famously have the foresight to sum up english remainers of the twenty first century when he famously wrote ...

QuoteWhen thou hast done, thou hast not done, For I have more.

:D

Im sure gerry is a particular fan .

With the currently level of population, no it can't.

so you approve of the ending of freedom of movement and tory attempts to curb immigration then paps? glad thats cleared up.

To get back to the op , i believe stormont will have a vote on the NI protocol in  three years time , so it will be interesting if they choose to end it. What happens then?

ticking timebomb sitting quietly counting down the clock.

Well , wasnt that a bit of an embarressing climbdown by pappy.

The nub of the situation is......the uk can survive without the eu and vice versa.

Trade and having dealings with each other is obviously conducive to the common good and well being of both the uk and EU , but not acceptable as it currently stands with the eu strings attached. So to sum up ....as we were post 2016. Attitudes havent changed to pave the way for politicians to BRINO or do other shady back door deals .

To go back to the original post , nothing much seems to be happening in northern ireland as it stands.

Im wondering if eventually both sides are going to be dragged kicking and screaming to confront the approaching reality of a referendum in northern ireland regarding which entity they want to belong to ....united ireland/EU or brexit uk?

The bodged half way house as it stands doesnt seem to be palatable to anyone , and as we discussed seemed to be nothing more than a short term measure to break the log jam.

You tell me which rice burner part you want and I'll look for it outside of the EU.

None at the moment. My new "rice burner" was assembled  in Thailand, despite it being a Honda.

Can you back up your contention with any credible evidence please.

You tell me which rice burner part you want and I'll look for it outside of the EU.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Barnier, Verhofstadt?? Are you serious?

Remember that pillar of honesty and integrity , the infamous mauel barroso?

QuoteIn 2005, Die Welt reported that Barroso had spent a week on the yacht of the Greek shipping billionaire Spiro Latsis. It emerged soon afterwards that this had occurred only a month before the Commission approved 10 million euros of Greek state aid for Latsis's shipping company – though the state aid decision had been taken by the previous European Commission before Barroso took up his post.[24] In response to this revelation, Nigel Farage MEP of the UK Independence Party persuaded around 75 MEPs from across the political spectrum to back a motion of no confidence in Barroso, so as to compel him to appear before the European Parliament to be questioned on the matter
Quote

In December 2013 Barroso said that Europe was not the cause of the problems for Ireland; Ireland caused a problem for Europe.

Absolute crap.

German and Swedish have their parts made in Brasil I believe.

You really think Americans rely on getting their parts for rice burners from the EU? 😂

Can you back up your contention with any credible evidence please.

I guess the "fortress Britain mentality" where desire never extends beyond cheese in slices, instant coffee, sliced bread, mashed potatoes, fried chicken and fish, Primark clothing, trainers, British brewed lager, cheap Chinese cars, etc, etc, etc, life would be bearable.

But it would be like the USSR and East Germany where quality, modernity and comfort were sacrificed to producing things that aided survival and the continuation of the state, but brought no joy and little satisfaction.

There are many things the British and Britain does well. And there are many more things EU countries do well too. Each can survive cut off from the other. But for me the UK would be a sadder place without the choice of food, drink, clothing, cars, and input of ideas and innovation from EU countries...

I notice that you once again failed to point to something exclusively EU.
You could have said Champagne, which of course is a trade trade name protected by the EU. Strangely enough they never afforded the U.K. the same level of protection over Sheffield Steel.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Nick a fifth of goods within the EU are chinese made  , never mind the goods from elswhere.

Especially pre manufactured goods , vehicles and machinary.

pappy is a nasty old soul full of vile intent , but he doesnt really have a clue about the world of work and who makes what.

If it was down to him and the socialist workers , employment would be banned in order to facilitate a thriving economy of general layabouts and fecklessness.

...and dont get him started on world wide trade..... :D

The odds and sods like microswitches do but the bulk are made in Europe.
Germany in particular makes a lot of "Universal" aftermarket parts. A trade the UK lost decades ago.
