Trade and having dealings with each other is obviously conducive to the common good and well being of both the uk and EU , but not acceptable as it currently stands with the eu strings attached. So to sum up ....as we were post 2016. Attitudes havent changed to pave the way for politicians to BRINO or do other shady back door deals .

To go back to the original post , nothing much seems to be happening in northern ireland as it stands.

Im wondering if eventually both sides are going to be dragged kicking and screaming to confront the approaching reality of a referendum in northern ireland regarding which entity they want to belong to ....united ireland/EU or brexit uk?

I guess the "fortress Britain mentality" where desire never extends beyond cheese in slices, instant coffee, sliced bread, mashed potatoes, fried chicken and fish, Primark clothing, trainers, British brewed lager, cheap Chinese cars, etc, etc, etc, life would be bearable.   
 
But it would be like the USSR and East Germany where quality, modernity and comfort were sacrificed to producing things that aided survival and the continuation of the state, but brought no joy and little satisfaction. 

There are many things the British and Britain does well. And there are many more things EU countries do well too. Each can survive cut off from the other. But for me the UK would be a sadder place without the choice of food, drink, clothing, cars, and input of ideas and innovation from EU countries...
