Yorkshire Cricket under fire

For years, football hooligans and thugs have got the attention. Now the gentlemen's (and player's) game of cricket is coming in for some hefty criticism and financial sanctions.

Has this "serious damage to the reputation of the game" come about because of Yorkshire-bred sportsmen's bluff and direct speech — or is there a wider problem?

As a cricket fan I am surprised at the thought this could be a wider problem. At county level I follow Kent and, to a lesser extent, Surrey. There's been the occasional unthinking banter between players and between fans over the years, but I've not noticed strong outright racist abuse.

Is this a storm an a teacup? Or has the general coarsening and combative posturing frequently seen in society these days, now spread to cricket...?

I see Vaughny is coming in for some stick: he says he categorically didn't use the term 'you lot' but then says how can you remember back 10 years?
Its funny cause I can hear him saying it, it's just the kind of thing he would say, is it racists? I'm not sure about that.
