She's not a bitter dumped mistress as you suggest, in effect she is saying she was sexually abused by a high up minister, a big difference.
Read the transcript Nick, its not that hard, she talks about the rekindling of an older relationship, that he originally stopped when he got promoted and restarted once he retired.
Her beef is that he dumped her once, when he got promoted and that he has now just dumped her again and she doesn't understand why.
This story is about a woman scorned.
Plus of course she spoke to the President of the IOC by videocall yesterday and was clearly fine.
None story, usual tabloid BS

Doubts expressed by many Chinese over Western Media ability to read and understand Chinese....

Yup, this is a big story throughout Chinese Society, both Domestic and Expat.
One thing they all seem to agree on is how can an ill advised post by a mistress complaining about the treatment (being dumped) by her married lover, be construed as a "MeToo" case?

So where is Peng now? She will be at home and doing what all Chinese do after foolishly and publicly losing face, keeping quiet and out of sight. We had this same game played with Jack Ma when he had his knuckles rapped earlier.
In this instance, it does look as though the the rapidly anti China US tabloid NYT is has been trying to manufacture a story to put pressure on political leaders that wanted to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics.
With a list of human rights violations as long as a take away menu why would the NYT be asked to focus on a relatively minor transgression as a sex abuse claim if as you say is true to put pressure on political leaders attending the winter Olympics ?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Well I expect a defence of the Chinese communist hierarchy mounted about these awful slurs on a wonderful system and it's leaders who would never do such things.

The west should hang it's head in shame for inventing this story.:P ::)
