I think most folk know that , but the statue was orignally torn down in ukraine because of its symbolism with the former ussr .

STATEMENT FROM HOME
We want to clarify that there is not an intention
to remove the artwork installation of Friedrich
Engels from the front of our building.
Friedrich Engels sits outside HOME as a
previously co-commissioned piece of work with
Manchester International Festival. It is part of
the artwork and film Ceremony created by artist
Phil Collins, which tracked the journey of the
decommissioned statue from its previous
position in Ukraine, here to Manchester.
Given the origins of the artwork, everyone
involved believes it is important that we consider
its meaning in the context of the illegal invasion
of Ukraine by the Russian army. We also want to
do more to explain how the installation came to
Manchester and the reasons behind this. We are
in discussions with the co-commissioners
Manchester International Festival and the artist
Phil Collins about how best to do this.
Is this what phil collins has been doing in his spare time since he stopped releasing albums?:D

I did read that statement , and as other have said , it seems like a large piece of backtracking in the face of outrage at the idiocy of their original "suggestion".

Not to mention others have pointed out the statue was controversial when it was installed , and some may be jumping on the russophobia bandwagon to get renew thier chance to get rid of it.

They can stick their Russophobia where the sun doesn't shine. They have all had a go at controlling Russian politics for their own ends.

Tearing down the statue of Friedrich Engels won't help Ukraine

Russophobia is clouding our judgement.

Yeah and they have said many times that won't be happening.

Manchester had a long association with Leningrad, and despite the clamour named an area Lenigrad  Square .....freedom of speech eh and as a kid I saw Yuri Gagarin in a motorcade in Manchester.

There was also a statue erected to Oliver Cromwell again to much aggro from the powers that be but up it went.

Long history in my part of the world of saying up yours......Peterloo and during the American civil war they refused to use the cotton causing themselves poverty but still carrying on in protest at the confederacy and slavery.

Like I say freedom of speech sadly lacking in Putins Russia.

I am still looking for where it says you will do 15 years for saying the word war. Not that I disagree with them, no war would have been a better option, a bit late for that one though.
But then I guess it was coming whatever.

Declassified papers reveal extent of US military aid to Ukraine – media

Washington has gone to great lengths to prepare Kiev "to wage a hybrid war against Russia," a major US news outlet has said

The list has illustrated the great extent to which the Biden administration "sought to prepare the Ukrainian military to wage a hybrid war against Russia," the Washington Post added.

The delivery of weapons to Kiev is "a continuous process. We are always, always looking at what Ukraine needs, and we've been doing this for years now," according to an unnamed high-ranking US defense official cited by the paper.

No it isn't fear mongering,he has called it special military operation and independent news organisations have closed  because they are not allowed to say it is a war.

No show me where it says you get 15 years for saying it is a war, it says telling lies about the Russian military which would be seen as anti-Russian propaganda it doesn't say if you say we are at war you get 15 years. When Vlad himself has ordered the military into Ukraine. A lot of NeoLiberal fear mongering as usual.
