Remind me again!! You have actually been to China right? And you believe it's not communist? 😂
Well I can easily ask you the same question in reverse
I can understand why some members would like this thread to go offtopic, rather than discuss the destruction of the Ukrainian military and the dismemberment of the Ukrainian state and I am loath to go there but....
Ok Nick you read my response to Barry, you tell me how I have got it so wrong and how what I am describing is communist?

Well given that both countries abandoned Communism over thirty years ago, then obviously yes.
Both countries operate mixed economies with a largely free market bias. China is a one party state that calls itself Socialist with Chinese Characteristics, while Russia is a multi party state run by a sort of One Nation Nationalist Party. Neither country is led by a Dictator, as both Xi and Putin can be removed by the parties they lead.
Both Governments are socially conservative with a small c and authoritarian, which frankly, I quite like.
Anything Else?
Well both countries are Secular, with China being officially atheist with Russia being mainly Orthodox Christian. Both countries have sizable, geographically placed religious minorities from most major world religions.

Yes the ruling party of China is called the Communist Party, but that's just the name of the party, rather like the official opposition here, calling itself a Labour Party.

Can we go back to topic before we start going down the well worn whataboutist route?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Putin warns countries against imposing no-fly zone
15:42
Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow will consider any country that sought to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine as having entered the conflict.
"Any movement in this direction will be considered by us as participation in an armed conflict by that country," the Russian president said during a meeting with Aeroflot employees reported by Reuters.
Imposing a no-fly zone would have "colossal and catastrophic consequences not only for Europe but also the whole world", Putin said.
Putin also dismissed rumours that Moscow plans to declare martial law. "Martial law should only be introduced in cases where there is external aggression ... we are not experiencing that at the moment and I hope we won't," he said.

I'm not really buying this "Putin is deranged and could do anything" line - the one person who has most to gain from thinking he is deranged at this moment, is Putin.  I suspect this is an acct to make us think he is mad.

UK's Raab: Talk of Russian nuclear escalation is rhetoric and brinkmanship (msn.com)
Thats right you numpty cant, just like you could control how they think and buy them up, they would never invade and you could just ignore them, tell us Russia was a third world shit hole and we have more freedom than they do. Whipping up Russophobia should cure all ills then.
Just because I don't say anything, it doesn't mean I haven't noticed!

15 years in jail for uttering a truth. Disputing a lie. Or as he would have it disputing the truth. Exercising something we take for granted called free speech .  Can't you see  anyone being frightened given that sort of option?

Julian Assange uttered the truth, so we should not take it for granted.

All of this over power plays by the EU and the IMF the US using NATO as its bitch and who controls Russian gas and oil, which has managed to put another country reduced to rubble and whipped up madness, like Thomas keeps saying the world has gone mad, except he didn't notice before it has always been a crazy place. Mainly run by complete dollar obsessed loons.

Apparently, the Czech Republic is introducing a law which could lead to those publicly supporting Russia to three years imprisonment.
Link?

Is this what phil collins has been doing in his spare time since he stopped releasing albums?:D

I did read that statement , and as other have said , it seems like a large piece of backtracking in the face of outrage at the idiocy of their original "suggestion".

Not to mention others have pointed out the statue was controversial when it was installed , and some may be jumping on the russophobia bandwagon to get renew thier chance to get rid of it.
I don't understand the Russophobia bit,the statue came from the Ukraine and Engels was a Jerry, still it's all a bit mad vodka being taken off the shelves, the alcys will have to go back to meths again. :D

Tomorrow's Sunday Times: Over the past 20 years thousands of British lawyers, bankers, wealth managers, estate agents, accountants and PR consultants have filled their boots helping Russian kleptocrats launder their money and reputations.

According to brillo , the mudslinging in the press tomorrow over dirty russian money is about to move up a gear. :D
