And you are a silly old man who lacks the courage to admit that he is wrong.

And I suspect that you have never dug a potato in his life.

Quotas my arse. Whenever I have picked fruit or veg there has never been any suggestion of quotas. We were paid for the amount we collected, not how fast we worked.

It is you who are very ill informed and very out of touch.
I have dug loads of spuds in my life but that has precisely zero to do with crop picking.
Borchester  being paid for the amount you pick IS a quota. There are target quotas to be met each day, if you can't meet them, (which old people can't,) you are kicked off of the farm. Pickers don't dig potatoes a machine does that.

Baff you are nothing but a very badly informed Troll, who appears to know zero about anything.
I am retired (74 years old.) I am not likely to starve, but far too many people where I live either are or will be in the next few months.

If you are going to tell lies Pappy, at least don't make them so obvious.

Algerie Francais !

If they were starving, they would find work.
It's that simple.

You can pretend that they are all victims of evil capitalism or some such if you like.

Make excuses for the work shy after a lifetimes worth of practice I expect.

Screw the country.
Screw society.

Let's train people to be malcontented instead of productive.
Because I want to be king. Because I want to be Elon Musk but I'm too lazy to graft for it.
I just feel entitled to it. So I encourage everyone to feel downtrodden. Abused. To revolt! To recognise instead my own true messianic value.

All you care about is some social revolution and "the poor" and "the weak" are just pawns towards that end.
No thanks. You sound like some nutty champagne socialist Labour toff. We're all too good to work.
And too ill. And too weak. We have to do the special work. The well paid stuff that doesn't hurt. The jobs that recognise our superior social status.

Jog on.
No desire to be the Boxer to your Animal Farm.

Go farm some grievance elsewhere.  That's not a beneficial social goal to be encouraged.

Ahh because UK people are genetically inferior to foreigners.
They can't do what foreign people do because.... you are a racist.

Ahh.

Not really going to buy into that lame excuse sorry.
Work shy people always have excuses mate.

But that's not the social attitude we seek to promote.
A can't do attitude?

No thanks. Enjoy your starvation dosser.
That's the cure. Tough love.

I see plenty of old people picking crops when I travel around the world.

But not in the UK, they would never be able to meet the production and quality targets.

I'm in my fifties and I do hard labour every day.
12 hour days, 7 day weeks in peak times. And I am very far from being the only person in my place of employment to be doing so. It is the norm.

I live on a farm BTW. That's what I do in my time off.

I see plenty of old people picking crops when I travel around the world.
You know, the elderly. The idea that middle aged people can't is patently ridiculous.
Don't or won't is not to be confused with can't.

I suggest you are lazy.
Work shy.

A slacker.

You want a free ride.
A soft job or even no job and let others support you.
And make them do all things you CBA too. That you think you are too good for. Too much of a victim for.
I think a little starvation would be a very valuable lesson for a lot of people.
Effective treatment for their mental illness. For their self indulgent, self entitled, anti social laziness.

And I use this very method to motivate myself. As a tool.
Practise what I preach.
So I don't just sit here and be bone idle all my life. Which I could easily do.

If you are lazy, excuses tend to make you feel more justified.
But they won't take hunger away.
Baff I suggest you try crop picking. I suspect you would not last a day.

If you are hungry hard work tends to make you faint/pass out.

As long as you believe and are happy with them Pappy, that is the only bit that counts :)
They are fact and data based, unlike the Home Office which seems to be doing a three wise monkeys about the Brexit caused labour shortages and Home Office intransigence.

That is of course true Pappy. As mentioned before, both my wife and I rely upon our allotments to feed us, but needless to say we don't harvest the roots and fruits or legumes ourselves. Instead we import illegal immigrants from the planet Zog to do the work for us.

Bit like you and those amazing news broadcasts you use to keep us all up to date

:)

Borchester you very obviously know zero about modern day crop picking. (Plus you keep making assumptions about me.  Unlike some on this forum I know what hard work is.)
The problem with government is few of the MPs have ever done any hard work.

How many of any colour of hypocrisy MPs pick crops that you know of?
None that I am aware of with up to date hands on experience. My problem is the subject of the shortage of crop pickers and why, has been reported regularly on the BBC Radio 4 farming program (05.45 hours daily recordings available,) regularly, also on BBC 1 Countryfile regularly and every TV News and current affairs programs regularly. So you should be able to understand why the ignorance shown by people on the forum is beyond annoying especially when they use that ignorance to abuse me.

Nick, I am amazed at so many people being so ill informed and ignorant of subjects that are widely investigated and reported.(At least I was until I checked the BARB viewing figures for new and current affairs and especially how few watch BBC Parliament and select committee meetings.
As for crop pickers the ignorance of people about the job is scary, especially by DeFRA and Tory MPs.
