Going green was never affordable . It was a policy of a party that wasn't going to get elected . They may have revised that slightly in recent months /weeks and will be ditching anything that can't be costed in the run up to the GE

Makes sense to announce that now. No party should make promises on spending that will have to be broken after coming to power — the LibDems learned that the hard way and are still tainted by the student fees issue...
