This demo lark is all very well when you are young and idealist and outside South Africa House protesting against Apartheid because it is an insult to human dignity and because you hope to get into the knickers of a Nigerian law student, but I have not been on any sort of protest since the Girlies Against Trump march a couple of years back.



I don't know what The Donald had done wrong but my daughter was really pissed off with him so she came down to London to make a fuss. And she brought her girlfriend who wanted to see the shops. And my grand daughters who had been told that their grandmother would fund a foray into Oxford Street. And I went along because Madam is on crutches and I did not want her knocked arse over teakettle by the massed ranks of Lesidom. So we had one committed You Name It She Is Against It protester and five others going for a day out. Which is just about the usual ratio for any demo.

There could be "social unrest" if the over-70s are told to stay in coronavirus lockdown while younger people return to work, a former pensions minister has warned.



Conservative peer Baroness Ros Altman spoke out against any "blanket ban" on older people leaving the house - and said some would "risk going to prison rather than being forced to isolate at home"
