There's something about sitting in a nice pub which makes the odd pint or two worth buying.

Landlords have got some pretty massive overheads to cover, especially energy prices going up so much recently. Plus inflation, and probably trying to recover from the stupid Covid closures and restrictions.
There is Barry and I do my bit to keep the local solvent . Every lunch and every night sessions of yesteryear are no longer part of my day though .  The doc had a fit when I told him my weekly intake so have cut  out the lunchtime drinking ;)

You're a gangster in your own lunch break.
No, I am 75 years old and do not suffer fools like you and Borchester gladly.

Nick when you have to sink to personal insults and lies you have proven you cannot debate.
As my new hat states:-

You're a gangster in your own lunch break.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

The number of people who can afford to go out to a pub is rapidly dwindling.

Regardless of the tax I think the point was a pint of Stella for example will cost (me) £5.60 in the pub but I can buy 14 almost pint cans for £12 in Tesco .

Nick you obviously have zero knowledge of the broad spectrum of humanity who are bikers at the rallies I go to. There are current and ex MPs, paramedics, nurses, diplomatic protection squad police officers, a retired home office pathologist, and many others professionals.
Sounds like the drunks down my local on a Friday night

I was talking about the bikers not the pub.

Some pubs did smell bad, but then some pubs always have.

Nick whether you like it or not Brexit is a factor. Supermarkets do have to apply VAT plus other tax to booze.

Alcohol Duty: rate changes - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

At the current VAT rate, and assuming 100% pass through wherever alcohol is purchased, from 1 August 2023 the tax on a typical:

  • 4% ABV pint of draught beer will be 0 pence higher
  • 4% ABV 500ml bottle of non-draught beer will be 5 pence higher
  • 5% ABV pint of draught cider will be 2 pence higher
  • 5% ABV 500ml bottle of non-draught cider will be 5 pence higher
  • 40% ABV 25ml serving of whisky will be 3 pence higher
  • 5.4% ABV 250ml can of spirits-based RTD will be 6 pence lower
  • 11% ABV 250ml glass of still wine will be 5 pence higher

Sorry, correction. I meant to say supermarkets don't or didn't put VAT on food unlike pubs, which is hitting them hard. Tesco's don't sell a glass of wine or a pint of draught beer. I assume you'll correct your mistake like I did?

As for your list, that is pub taxes,
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

That is why I personally stopped going to pubs years ago. (A pint at a motorcycle rally is still £3.)
